MG Motor India has introduced the Blackstorm edition of its Astor compact SUV. Following the Gloster Blackstorm, this is the second MG vehicle to receive a Blackstorm edition. The MG Astor Blackstorm showcases an elegant all-black theme with subtle red accents.

Strategic Positioning

Unlike the Gloster Blackstorm, which was based on the top-spec Savvy trim and featured a host of premium features, the Astor Blackstorm is based on the mid-spec Smart trim. This strategic move aligns with customer preferences, as seen in the Creta Knight Edition, which starts from the S Plus trim. Moreover, the pricing for the MG Astor Blackstorm starts at Rs. 14.48 lakh for the 5-speed manual variant and Rs. 15.77 lakh for the CVT variant (ex-showroom).

MG Astor Blackstorm Exterior Enhancements

The MG Astor Blackstorm boasts several visual enhancements, including Blackstorm badging on the front fenders, black-finished alloy wheels with red-painted front brake calipers, black-finished smoked-effect headlights, and more. It features a honeycomb-pattern grille with a gloss black finish, while the MG badging on the grille retains its chrome appearance. Additionally, MG offers black-finished front and rear bumpers, further enhancing the SUV’s sporty appeal. Gloss black door garnishes and roof rails complete the exterior makeover.

MG Astor Blackstorm Features and Performance

The interior of the MG Astor Blackstorm exudes a dark and luxurious ambiance with an all-black theme complemented by subtle red highlights. The tuxedo black upholstery for the seats exudes sophistication. Furthermore, AC vents feature Sangria Red surrounds, and the floor console is finished in all black. Red stitching on the steering wheel, seats, leatherette cladding on the dashboard, and doors adds a sporty touch to the cabin.

Moreover, MG has equipped the Astor Blackstorm with a plethora of features, including a panoramic sunroof, Bluetooth digital key, i-Smart connected tech suite, and more. Lastly, the standard feature list for the Astor is extensive even on the base variant.

Under the hood, the MG Astor Blackstorm is powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 108 bhp of power and 144 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission.

While the MG Astor has seen sales figures of less than 1000 units, the introduction of the Blackstorm edition with its added features and stylish aesthetics aims to generate more interest in the product, potentially translating into increased sales.
