Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off its all-new Concept Mercedes Benz Cla Class at the Munich Motor Show 2023. This concept car, built upon the new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA), offers a tantalizing look at the automaker’s future direction. It represents the electric successor to the CLA and marks the beginning of a fresh lineup of entry-level luxury vehicles from Mercedes-Benz. Advanced Charging Capabilities

Equipped with an 800V electric architecture, it supports 250kW DC charging, delivering up to 400 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes. This capability enhances the convenience of long-distance travel.

Innovative Battery Design

The Concept Cla Class features a battery with two different cell chemistries. Higher-spec variants use an anode design with silicon-oxide content, while the entry variant employs lithium-iron phosphate technology. This innovative approach allows for greater flexibility in meeting varying performance needs.

Powerful Electric Motor

The electric powertrain incorporates a 235hp permanently excited synchronous machine paired with a 2-speed transmission. It weighs 110kg and offers an impressive energy efficiency of up to 93 percent, providing a compelling driving experience.

The MMA platform is designed as an electric-first architecture but can accommodate combustion engine drivetrains as well. The Concept CLA Class is configured for rear-wheel drive, but its modular nature makes it adaptable for all-wheel drive applications.

The concept car supports bi-directional charging, indicating that the production version will have the capability for vehicle-to-home (V2H), vehicle-to-grid (V2G), and vehicle-to-appliance (V2A) functions.

Striking Exterior Design

The Concept CLA Class features a futuristic and striking exterior design. It exhibits a low-slung profile with distinctive front-end styling, frameless doors, and a sleek roofline that echoes the outgoing CLA. Notably, it incorporates advanced LED lighting elements throughout its design.

Technologically Advanced Interior

Inside, the Concept CLA Class showcases the “Superscreen,” a full-width 10.25-inch touchscreen that runs on Mercedes-Benz’s new MB.OS operating system. A new Child Presence Detection system is designed to mitigate the risk of young children being left in the car during warm weather. Using sensors and cameras to detect breathing patterns, it issues warnings and activates the air conditioning while sounding the horn if a child is detected without an adult.

The production version of the electric CLA, set to hit the market in 2025, will remain true to the concept’s vision with only minimal alterations. An India launch could also be on the horizon in the same year, further expanding the reach of this electric luxury vehicle.
