New Electric Car Launches in India

The automakers are gearing up to launch more Electric Vehicles across various segments of the market. This move will increase the accessibility of electric vehicles for a wide range of consumers. Moreover, it will help the automakers to make more sales volumes.

New Zero emission vehicles are waiting in the pipeline. Almost every carmaker is preparing including luxury brands like Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. Also, mainstream brands like Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra, Toyota, Kia, and Honda are gearing up to launch more EVs in the market.

Currently, Tata Motors is ruling the Electric Vehicle segment in India with over 80% market share. However, the carmaker will launch more electric vehicles to maintain consistency in the market.

Upcoming Electric Vehicle Launches from Tata Motors

The Indian carmaker is gearing up to launch more electric vehicles in the market. Currently, Tata’s line-up includes EVs like Nexon EV, Tiago EV, and Tigor EV. Recently, the carmaker showcased the Harrier EV, Curvv, Avinya, and Sierra EV concepts at Auto Expo 2023.

It is expected that Tata Motors will launch the Punch EV in the market by 2024. In addition, it will introduce the Harrier EV and Curvv in 2024. With these launches, the carmaker has aimed to achieve 25% of EVs in its lineup by the coming 5 years. Moreover, the carmaker has planned to achieve 50% of its sales from EVs by 2030.

Upcoming EV Launches from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota

Maruti Suzuki announced its joint venture with Toyota in 2019. In this joint venture, both carmakers will share their technologies to develop hybrids and electric vehicles. Recently, the carmaker showcased the EVX concept at Auto Expo 2023. The EVX concept uses Toyota’s 27PL skateboard platform.

From this, we expect that the carmaker will unveil the production version of the EVX by next year. Meanwhile, Toyota will launch its own version of the EVX concept by half of this decade. The EVX concept will feature a big battery pack and a powerful electric motor set-up.

Upcoming EVs from MG, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia

Currently, the line-up of MG Motor includes the ZS EV and Comet EV as their electric vehicles in India. However, the carmaker is working on the development of a new electric vehicle for the Indian market.

Hyundai is also preparing to launch more electric vehicles in the market. Currently, their line-up has the Kona EV as their only electric vehicle in India. However, the Korean carmaker is testing the electric version of Creta. The Creta EV was caught multiple times on public roads.

Moreover, Kia Motors will enter the Electric Vehicle segment in India. Currently, its lineup has the EV6 as its only EV in India. However, the Kia is working on the development of the India-bound EV9 followed by the new electric vehicle.

Meanwhile, Honda has announced that it will launch its new electric vehicles in India this decade. The carmaker has recently unveiled the Elevate and it will be launched by September. Moreover, the carmaker announced that the Elevate will get the EV variant as well called the e-Elevate.

Upcoming EV Launches from Mahindra, Tesla, Ola and Others

Mahindra unveiled the BEV and XUV series of electric vehicles concept last year. With various series of EVs, we expect that Mahindra will step up the game in the EV segment. Currently, the carmaker has the XUV400 as the only electric vehicle in its lineup.

Meanwhile, the American carmaker, Tesla has planned to establish local manufacturing plants in India. The company will utilize this plant for making battery packs and vehicle manufacturing purposes. However, nothing is confirmed until they officially reveal plans for a “made for India” car.

OLA is also preparing to enter the Electric 4-wheeler segment in India. Currently, they make electric 2-wheelers like S1 Air and S1 Pro scooters. The company is already working on the development of its new electric car. We expect that OLA will launch its electric car by 2024.

Other Electric Vehicles makers are also preparing to launch their electric cars in India. The latest American entrant, Fisker is preparing to launch its Ocean EV in the Asian markets.
