Mahindra Scorpio Nameplate Achieves Huge Production Milestone!

One of the best-selling SUVs, Mahindra Scorpio has recently achieved a remarkable milestone. The SUV maker has rolled off 9 Lakh units of the Scorpio since its inception in 2002.

Last year, Mahindra launched the Scorpio N which sells alongside the old-generation Scorpio Classic in the market. Mahindra Scorpio becomes the most popular SUV in the Indian market brimmed with a ladder frame platform, off-road capabilities, practicality, massive road presence, and commanding seat ergonomics.

The first-generation Mahindra Scorpio was launched back in 2001. This was a tough project for Mahindra to create a highly capable ladder frame SUV in under 600 crores budget. Mr. Pawan Goenka has successfully implemented their skills and created this SUV for under 600 crores.

Now, the SUV maker has rolled out its 900,000th milestone model after 11 years from its Chakan plant near Pune, Maharashtra. Currently, the Scorpio is available in 2 different generations namely the Scorpio Classis and the recently launched Scorpio-N in 2022. The Scorpio-N has contributed to the YoY growth of the sales of the company for FY2023 by 99%.

The sales analysis

In FY2023, Mahindra Scorpio accumulated a total sales of 76,935 units. These numbers result in a huge YoY growth of 99%. However, in the first 2 months of FY2024, the SUV maker sold a total of 18,835 units of Scorpio. While in May 2023, the sales of the Scorpio significantly contributed to the company’s sales and YoY growth of 114.31%

Recalling the last year, Mahindra commenced the bookings of the Scorpio-N in July 2022. The SUV created a new record by garnering 1 Lakh bookings within 30 minutes of duration. While the deliveries were started in September 2022, the SUV became the most popular choice among the audience.

Mahindra Scorpio-N is one of the potent SUVs from the house of an Indian SUV maker. It is based on the new ladder frame platform which shares its underpinnings with the new Thar and upcoming Thar 5-door. The SUV boasts a muscular and beefy silhouette with a massive road presence and a commendable 5-star safety rating. The SUV boasts certain highlighted elements such as alloys, LED headlights, and taillights, a new grille, a new steering wheel, etc.

While the other comfort creature features include the sunroof, roof-mounted speakers, Auto AC, infotainment system, analog instrument cluster, etc. Mechanically, Mahindra Scorpio-N is available with 2 engine options including the 2.0L M-Stallion turbo petrol and 2.2L M-hawk Diesel engines. While the former makes 200ps and 370-380Nm torque, the latter churns 130-172hp and 300-400nm of output. The Customers can choose from 6-Speed Manual and Automatic Transmissions along with 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain options. The price range of Scorpio-N starts at Rs. 13.05 Lakhs and ends at Rs. 24.52 Lakhs Ex-showroom.

About Mahindra Scorpio Classic

Mahindra Scorpio Classic is another prominent SUV from the house of an Indian SUV maker. However, this SUV retains its old-school ladder frame platform with a slew of tweaks to its suspension setup. The SUV boasts a muscular design profile that appeals to traditional and raw SUV enthusiasts. Some of the highlights include a new 7-slat grille, Mahindra’s new emblem, 17-inch alloys, revised taillights, cladding, etc.

Meanwhile, the interior of Scorpio Classic is like its previous iteration. However, Mahindra has updated this SUV with a new infotainment system that supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity. Other features are carried forward from its previous model such as Auto AC, Armrests, rear AC vents, Analog instrument cluster, multifunctional steering wheel, etc. Mechanically, Mahindra is offering the Scorpio Classic with the new 2.2L BS6 phase-2 compliant M-hawk 4-cylinder diesel engine. This engine produces 130hp and 300nm of generous output. While the power is channeled to the rear wheels via a 6-Speed Manual Transmission and RWD drivetrain. The price range of Scorpio Classic starts at Rs. 12.99 Lakhs and ends at Rs. 16.82 Lakhs Ex-showroom.
