Lotus Takes the Wraps off the Eletre SUV – Available on Order

One of the renowned carmakers, Lotus has unveiled its first electric SUV model known as the Eletre. The Eletre is the first performance electric SUV from the house of the British carmaker. Architecture and Aerodynamics of Lotus Eletre

The Lotus Eletre is based on the all-new Electric Premium Architecture (EPA) which will set a benchmark in its segment. The new Electric Premium Architecture is a flexible and modular platform sharing its underpinnings with upcoming Lotus Cars. With this platform, the Eletre will become the first hyper-SUV with a cab-forward design and sports car-like mid-engine layout.

The new platform supports active aerodynamic technologies which enhance efficiency, performance, and drivability. This results in a less drag coefficient standing at 0.26. Further improving the aerodynamics of the SUV are an active front grille, front fascia, sporty silhouette, electronic mirrors, and rear spoiler. The side view can be accessed through the display mated to the electric mirrors which reduces wind resistance by 1.5%. Meanwhile, the rear spoiler improves the overall aerodynamics of the SUV by 1.8% with up to 113kgs of downforce.

Exterior and Aesthetics of Lotus Eletre

The Lotus Eletre boasts a stunning sporty design profile on the exterior. Unlike the previous design, the carmaker has transformed the design language with the Eletre which embarks on its transition to an all-electric future. The front fascia boasts a sharp and clean profile resembling the Emira and Evija models from Lotus. The sharp LED DRLs and headlights are well integrated into the hood and bumpers of the SUV respectively. While on the bumper, the SUV gets a large air dam finished in gloss black paint and license plate provision.

On the side profile, the SUV gets a sporty silhouette with a slew of edges and a sloping roof. The doors can be opened with flush door handles and they have electronic mirrors instead of the traditional ORVM. The wheel arches get black cladding and the SUV sits on 23-inch black swivel alloy wheels enhancing its overall design. At the rear, the SUV gets a taillight light bar that runs across the width. Other rear elements include air outlets near the taillight, lip on the tailgate and windscreen, and black treatment on the bumper with reflectors.

Interior and Features of Lotus Eletre

Like the exteriors, the Lotus Eletre features a premium and advanced ultra-modern interior with large screens. The dashboard comprises an advanced fully digital instrument cluster, a 15.1-inch infotainment display, and a light strip across it. An information display is also provided on the passenger side. The console is tilted towards the driver which enhances the ergonomics of the SUV.

The 15.1-inch display is based on Lotus Hyper OS which supports connectivity features, 5G internet, voice commands, and other vehicle settings. The infotainment system is paired with a 23-speaker KEF Premium sound system along with Dolby Atmos sound software for precision. Other features include Climate Control, a panoramic sunroof, ADAS with advanced ultrasonic sensors and cameras, a LIDAR system, Level-4 Autonomous driving, etc.

Powertrain, Performance, Efficiency, and Charging

Lotus Eletre will set a new performance, dynamics, design, and efficiency benchmark in its segment. The SUV gets a 112kWh Lithium-ion battery pack and supports up to 350kW of charger for a fast-charging time. The SUV is propelled by advanced electric drive motors and ensures adrenaline of performance. The motor will produce 603hp of power and 710nm of torque output is channeled to all the wheels via 1-speed transmission.

This results in a 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds and a maximum top speed of 258km/h and 600 km of range. However, the Electre R is even more powerful at 905hp and 985nm of output which does 0-100 in 2.95 seconds and 265k/h of top speed. The Electre R will offer 495kms of claimed WLTP range and has a 2-speed transmission with different gear ratios. The ratio of 1st gear is 13.65:1 and 2nd gear is 7.16:1 ensuring a brisk performance.

Official Statement

Mike Johnstone, Group Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, Lotus, commented: “Like every Lotus, the Eletre is first and foremost a car ‘For the Drivers’. Its DNA is 100% Lotus, with exceptional dynamic performance.
