Attention Kia Owners: 30,000 Carens Recalled! Is Your Car on the List?

One of the leading carmakers, Kia has recalled several units of its 7-seater MPV known as the Carens. The purpose of recalling the Carens is for a free software update.

It’s the second recall of the Kia Carens since its launch in February 2022. Recently, the carmaker has updated its line-up with new engines to comply with BS6 phase-2 emission standards.

Details about the Recall of Kia Carens

Kia Motors has recalled approx. 30,297 units of their best-selling 7-seater, Carens. As per the carmaker, they have recalled those units which were manufactured between September 2022 and February 2023. The carmaker emphasized its commitment to conducting regular checks and thorough testing of components, complying with their global standard.

As part of this recall, Kia will inspect the affected units and provide a free software update to their customers. “The recall campaign has been initiated to inspect any potential error in the cluster booting process that may cause the cluster to go blank,” the carmaker said in a statement. Notably, Kia had recalled several units of Carens in May 2022 which is around 3 months after its launch. In the first recall, the carmaker recalled 4,000 units for the software update.

Kia Carens is a compact 7-seater from the house of Korean Carmaker. This MPV is built on the K2 platform which shares its underpinnings with Seltos, Sonet, and some Hyundai cars too. The MPV gets a distinctive design with a boxy silhouette which grabs some attention of the people. It gets LED lights, a stylish grille, bumpers, attractive alloy wheels, LED Taillights with a light bar, and a shark fin antenna.

Inside, the MPV gets an airy and spacious interior with a beige and black theme. The dashboard comprises the digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with connectivity, a multifunctional steering wheel, etc. Other comfort creature features include Auto AC, Rear AC Vents, a one-touch tumble seat, Keyless Entry and Ignition, Leather Upholstery, etc.

Powertrain Options, Pricing, and Competition

Kia Carens is powered by 3 engine options. The lower variants get a 1.5L 4-cylinder Naturally Aspirated petrol engine making 115ps and 144nm of output. This engine is only available with a 6-Speed Manual Transmission.

However, the higher variants are only available with a 1.5L 4-cylinder T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine churning 160ps and 253nm of output. The Carens is also available with a 1.5L 4-cylinder CRDi diesel engine producing 115ps and 250nm of output. Both these engines can be had with either a 6-Speed IMT or 7-Speed DCT Transmission. The parameters like acceleration and fuel efficiency can be tuned via its driving modes.

Kia has retailed the Carens in the price range from Rs. 10.45 Lakhs to 18.95 Lakhs Ex-showroom. The MPV will continue to compete with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Mahindra Marazzo, Maruti Suzuki XL6, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus.
