Take A Look At Maruti Fronx’s Base Sigma Variant

Maruti’s latest Nexa offering, the Baleno-based Coupe-SUV – Fronx has hit the market with a bang. Having garnered over 50 thousand bookings, the Indo-Japanese automaker has started deliveries of the crossover.

The Fronx is offered across five variants namely, Sigma, Delta, Delta Plus, Zeta, and Alpha variants. Alpha is the top level and Sigma is the base level Variant of the Fronx. Until now, all the variants of the coupe-SUV were spotted by us except for the base trim.

Now, pictures & videos have shown us what the base-spec Fronx looks like so, here’s all about the Fronx Sigma base variant.

Fronx Base Variant: Exterior Details

On the exterior, it retains its tough and muscular look with the body cladding, silver front skid plates, chrome bar on the front, & roof rails which are standard across all variants. The fact that Maruti has kept the same 16-inch wheel size for all variants is also a welcome change. The only difference is that the lower trims get black steel rims with wheel covers while the higher variant gets diamond-cut alloys.

The crossover, in its entry-level trim, misses out on body-coloured ORVMs & door handles, and UV filter glass. LED headlights make way for conventional halogen projector bulbs, and so do the orvm-mounted turn indicators for simpler, fender-mounted ones.

Despite losing the DRLs, it retains the sleek design which now houses the halogen front turn indicators. At the rear, the Fronx gets the shark-fin antenna & still has the LED taillamps sans the connected light strip.

Fronx Base Variant: Interior Details

Moving to the inside, we notice that Maruti has made the dual-tone brown-n-black interior shade & brushed silver garnish standard for the dashboard, door pads, & seat upholstery. What’s also great is that the top model’s automatic climate control unit is also standard across the range giving the base model’s interior a fair bit of premium-ness.

The car misses out on an infotainment unit, speakers, steering-mounted controls, a colour-TFT display for the instrument cluster, push button start-stop, & driver-seat height adjustment. Both the front & rear USB sockets have been removed for 12V sockets. Notably, traction control, auto idle start-stop, and keyless entry are some more features that are standard.

Fronx Base Variant: Engines & Transmission Options

The Fronx comes with a choice of 2 petrol motors — a 1.2L naturally aspirated and a 1.0L turbo unit. The 1.2L NA is good for 90PS of power @ 6000rpm & 113Nm of torque @ 4400rpm. The 1.0L turbo powerplant gives a meaty 100PS of power @ 5500rpm & 148Nm of torque between 2000-4500rpm.

Both engines come with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Automatic transmission options include a 5-speed AMT for the 1.2L NA petrol and a 6-speed torque converter for the 1.0L turbo petrol engine.

Recently, Maruti also added a new bluish-black colour scheme to the crossover SUV’s paint options.
