All You Need To Know About The Grand Vitara CNG

Maruti has been continuing its work of offering more and more products in CNG guise. The recent addition to the brand’s S-CNG portfolio is its Grand Vitara SUV.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Cng has become the first vehicle to offer CNG technology in the premium compact SUV category, whereas other carmakers are shying away from even offering a diesel. The Suzuki-Toyota SUV offers AWD, an option of a strong hybrid, and now S-CNG.

The immense popularity and tough fight that the Grand Vitara-Urban Cruiser Hyryder have been able to give to the Korean SUVs Creta-Seltos is due to the range of unique powertrain options that the Grand Vitara-Hyryder offer above other cars in their segment.

Grand Vitara S-CNG: Engines, Transmissions & Powertrains

The Grand Vitara’s CNG powertrains are only offered with mild hybrid powertrain options. Strong hybrid/Intelligent Hybrid not equipped with CNG. Also, mild hybrid variants with CNG bi-fuel options are only offered with manual transmission and automatic is not on offer. CNG variants also won’t get the option of AWD.

Maruti Suzuki uses the 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with the CNG kit from the other Maruti Suzuki offerings like Ertiga and XL6. Like in the other three-row vehicles, this CNG powertrain claims 86.6 bhp of power and 121.5 Nm of torque, which are lower than the 103 bhp and 136 Nm of the petrol-powered Grand Vitara. Maruti Suzuki is offering the Grand Vitara CNG only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the 6-speed automatic transmission has been given a miss for this new variant.

Grand Vitara S-CNG: Other Changes

Although, Maruti has done some pretty well packaging with the placement & fitting of the Grand Vitara’s CNG fuel tank. Despite having the CNG cylinder, the SUV still possesses some usable space in the boot.

Apart from the addition of a factory-fitted CNG kit, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG has no other changes over its petrol-powered counterpart. The overall packaging of the SUV, including the exterior design, cabin layout, and list of features in the Grand Vitara CNG is the same as that in the petrol-powered version.

Grand Vitara S-CNG: Pricing & Variants

The factory-fitted S-CNG kit is now offered as an option in the mid-spec Delta and Zeta variants of the Grand Vitara. The CNG variants are more expensive by Rs 95,000. While the Delta variant is priced at Rs 12.85 lakh, the more-premium Zeta variant with additional features has been priced at Rs 14.84 lakh.

According to Maruti Suzuki, the Grand Vitara CNG can also be had via a monthly subscription, which starts at Rs 30,723.
