Tata Motors today launched India’s first tough reader SUV -the Tiago Nrg in its iCNG guise.

Launched in two variants XT and XZ, the hatchback gets the CNG option at a premium of 90,000 Rs; starting at Rs 7.39 lakhs (ex-showroom) while the latter comes priced at Rs 7.79 lakhs (ex-showroom). The car shares its engine and manual gearbox with the Tiago hatchback but gets a host of distinct design cues along with a higher ground clearance of 177 mm.

This latest iCNG offering from Tata Motors will be available in 4 colours namely Foresta Green, Fire Red, Polar White, and Cloudy Grey. To handle the additional weight of the factory-fitted CNG kit, Tata Motors has retuned the suspension of the Tiago Nrg Icng. The CNG kit sits in the boot of the hatchback, reducing boot capacity for luggage.

The Tiago NRG iCNG comes with the new ‘iCNG’ badging in the exteriors and is equipped with SUV design elements such as armoured front cladding, black plastic cladding along the lower section of the body and over the wheel arches, black roof with faux roof rails, a muscular tailgate, satin skid plate, squircle wheel arches, 14” Hyperstyle wheels and blacked out ORVMs & B-pillars.

The Tiago NRG iCNG gets the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 86PS and 113Nm in petrol mode as the hatchback’s other variants and comes mated only to a five-speed manual gearbox. These output figures are reduced to 73PS and 95Nm in CNG mode, similar to the regular Tiago’s CNG variants. It also gets the unique feature of Tata’s iCNG technology which can start the car in CNG mode itself. Talking about fuel economy, even though the brand has not mentioned the claimed figure of the cross-hatchback, it is expected that it might be similar to the 26.49km/kg figure of the Tiago and Tigor CNG.
