Founded in the year 2017, Batt:RE has been working to develop affordable, aspirational, and electric solutions for the everyday commuter. They have developed electric scooters and bicycles for the Indian market, offering a good range and lower running costs. We speak to Mr. Nischal Chaudhary who is the Founder and Director of the company and get some more insights of the company and their vision.

Can you tell us a little about your background before you founded Batt:Re?

Having spent almost 2 decades in the telecom industry, my co-founder and I were on the lookout for an industry with the potential to change a billion lives. We saw an opportune moment in the form of electric mobility owing to the growing mobility demands in India while creating an alternative to ICE vehicles for a greener and sustainable future. This effort of ours is a contribution to our future generations for a cleaner environment. The fruits of our effort have resulted in 30,000 Batt:RE scooters on the road which are constantly helping our users save INR 3.6 crore worth of fuel every month and reduce 4.8 lakh kg of CO2 on a monthly basis.

What motivated you to establish Batt: RE?

As mentioned, Batt:RE understands the need for a sustainable future. Even when we were in the nascent stages of trying to zero in on an industry with massive potential, our main goal was always two-pronged: to provide premium products that were accessible to the masses and to leave a better imprint on the planet for the coming generations.  This is what motivated us to establish our own EV company, Batt:RE, which is in sync with our mission statement and ideals.  

What does Batt:RE’s product portfolio look like?

Batt:RE has been making Electric Scooters since June 2019 and initially, our offerings were limited to slow-speed scooters. After analyzing the trends in this space, we felt a need for adding high-speed scooters to build a stronger portfolio and cater to the growing demands for mobility in India.

We have always been a user-oriented company. While working on our first high-speed scooter Stor:ie, our in-depth interactions with existing customers and channel partners helped us understand and incorporate their feedback. This has culminated into Stor:ie, a scooter we believe is a perfect product for Indian conditions and use cases. We are building our portfolio with many more high-speed scooters in the coming months to cater to a wider audience and penetrate the tier II & III markets.

Can you highlight key differentiators in Batt: RE products that make them better than the competition?

Batt:RE prides itself on its exceptional quality and customer experience. We aim for our scooters to be of superior engineering to ease the daily life of Indian commuters. Making products accessible through a robust sales and service network, Batt:RE is taking steady yet defined steps to accomplish its mission of driving e-mobility to the heart of India. Within just 3 years of operations, we have a presence in 20 states, with 426+ dealerships from Kashmir all the way to Kanyakumari.

Can you share some unique features of the recently launched Stor:ie?

Stor:ie comes with a host of unique features. It is our first all-metal-paneled scooter. It has a smart TFT display – which is connected to the user’s phone through the Batt:RE app. On this TFT display, consumers can get Navigation assistance, call alerts, a variety of riding modes, and an indicator for letting the user know when the battery status of the scooter- completely eliminating the range anxiety. Stor:ie comes with one of the biggest seats and footboards within its category which aids in a better, more convenient city commute. The scooter has been designed keeping in mind the user’s comfort without compromising on safety. The motor and controller of Stor:ie are powered by a Lucas TVS with an AIS 156 approved 3.1kWh battery pack which gives a mileage of approximately 132Km on a single charge (ICAT Certified). The battery goes through rigorous testing including testing the scooter for 1,00,000 kilometers to prevent the initiation and propagation of thermal runaway (fire). These high-end features come at a very competitive price of Rs.

What percentage of components used in Batt:RE are developed in-house
and what percentage are imported?

The governmental push for the adoption of EVs through its FAME II and other subsidies has created a conducive environment for manufacturers to not only sell but also produce parts indigenously. We at Batt:RE, strongly believe in using parts made indigenously, and  Stor:ie is a testament to that. It is completely made in India and we are proud to have it in our portfolio. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products which is why all the parts are built by reputed tier 1 suppliers only.

Batt:REs current dealership network and growth strategy?

We currently stand strong at 426+ dealerships and we aim to reach at least 800 + dealerships by the end of this year. This is owing to our strategic partnerships and distribution spread, we are taking e-mobility to every part of India by covering a majority of tier 2 and tier 3 cities. We are actively expanding with an aim to provide better mobility options to all citizens. We are working on expanding our EV portfolio to cater to a wider consumer base by covering a majority of tier II and tier III cities.
