Meet Dean Lim, Project Coordinator

Project Coordinator

Dean Lim

Dean Lim came onboard The Ortus Club with a fresh perspective on leading an extensive professional life: a job is not a game; it’s a job. He does not brook a work-life mindset for himself, electing instead to dedicate his efforts to improving his knowledge base and that of his peers in their endeavours to maintain the growth of not just his team but of the whole company.

What makes you the best at what you do? What values drive you to perform even better?

It isn’t so much a value as it is a mindset, and this mindset is the polar opposite of the more millennial psyche of maintaining an ideal work-life balance. As a professional, I firmly believe that any role in any given company will always entail a certain degree of business, and, if you ask any professional with a regimented entrepreneurial attitude, all businesses come with a level of difficulty.

This may seem unorthodox given the momentum of the movement promoting work-life balance post-pandemic, but I genuinely believe that there is beauty in leading a life with moments of immense pressure. I think that being attracted to the pace and rhythm of work is what drives success, and these experiences colour life more vividly than the pallor palette of being relaxed.

Honestly, I don’t buy into the idea that work can be playtime at times, but it can be a like a game because it requires complete attention, strict concentration, and absolute dedication. By looking at work this way, I’m empowered to do the most that I can in my role. I certainly relish the challenge. I thrive in high-pressure situations, and, with my keen attention to detail as a project coordinator, I carry the skill and expertise to analyse problems from various angles and devise creative strategies to resolve them.

What challenges have you proudly overcome in such a fast-paced working environment?

A list of all the challenges I have faced does not exist, but if I had to name one, I’d say that adapting to the company’s operations planning system is the biggest obstacle I’ve hurdled thus far. Having come from a vastly different background before joining The Ortus Club, I had to digest the company’s processes in executing operations planning strategies. Understanding these new processes proved demanding at first, but, with prior experience in creating plans for production floors and an adept level of focus, I managed to absorb the nature and scope of this newfound responsibility and apply it to my work process.

What knowledge can you share with the charisma and confidence of a lifelong expert?

How other professionals see their expertise as rooted in confidence, I see my own rooted in curiosity and the pursuit of growth. Truthfully, I’ve never relied on — even thought of placing my trust in — just the knowledge I have in any given present moment because I firmly believe, in today’s world, that knowledge and information evolve constantly at a rate much more expeditious than ever before. This modern evolution of knowledge creation and knowledge-sharing breathes new life into my purpose, both as a project coordinator at The Ortus Club and as a lifelong learner.

‘This modern evolution of knowledge creation and knowledge-sharing breathes new life

into my purpose, both as a project coordinator at The Ortus Club and as a lifelong learner.’

Why do you stay with the company? What would you tell someone interested in joining?

Being a professional who excels in functions that come with a high level of pressure, I’ve always appreciated the opportunities The Ortus Club has opened up for me. At the speed through which the company has been operating and growing thus far, I’ve been able to thrive in the many challenging and fast-paced situations I’ve encountered throughout my stay.

What do you think the future holds for The Ortus Club? What role will you play in realising that vision?

In The Ortus Club, ‘growth’ is not just a buzzword we repeat to keep the hype going. We believe in it, we proactively live it, and, from what I’ve seen so far, we always achieve it – and we intend to perpetuate this cycle of limitless growth. The processes we’ve established never remain static because we never falter in developing creative solutions for new and existing problems.

As a project coordinator, I envision myself persevering in my commitment to expanding the Operations team by contributing my expertise in any way I can. That way, we can continue fostering a stronger and more wholesome environment of constant learning—not just for ourselves but for anyone passionate about discovering new ideas.
