T20 World Cup 2022: Schedule, Matches, Venue & Streaming Details

After a wait of one year, the ICC T20 World Cup is back in the game. This time defending champion Australia will be hosting one of the greatest events in sports entertainment from October 16 to November 13 2022. There will be sixteen t20 international teams highlighting the grounds of Australia in the eighth edition of the ICC T20 World Cup.

The event was supposed to happen in India in 2021, but due to Covid-19, it was rescheduled, and Australia acquired the opportunity to host 45 matches. We saw the tremendous performances of international teams last year. Especially Pakistan, England, New Zealand and Australia, who made it to the Semi-finals. In the end, the Aussies were able to grab the title as their first t20 international reign by defeating New Zealand with an iconic performance in all three departments.

This year 2022, is also filled with excitement, and we will be able to witness once again the most awaited encounters between teams like Pakistan and India. Plus, it will be interesting to watch the performances of fast-paced bowlers on one of the finest grounds in the world of cricket.

For instance, Mohammad Rizwan, Suryakumar Yadav, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Josh Hazlewood and Rashid Khan are topping the charts in their respective departments.

Super 12

Race to the semi-finals has always been the most challenging job even though each team will play five rounds. As there are twelve teams who are competing with each other, and only those with maximum wins with the highest strike rate will secure their positions in the semi-finals.

Last year we saw that teams with four wins were having a very tough time getting into the semis. That’s why teams will have to win at least four matches out of six to have their chances into the final knockout rounds.

Background & Interesting Facts of ICC T20 World Cup Tournament

If we talk about the stats of the ICC MenT20 Tournament, it was first held in 2007, and India was the first-ever champion who defeated Pakistan to achieve the title. In the same way, the Pakistani Shaheens were able to secure the title in the second edition of the World T20 Cup in 2009.

To date, no other team has won the title two times except West Indies. This team became the only one to achieve this feat by winning the 2012 and 16 T20 World Cups under the captaincy of Daren Sammy.

  • Top teams like South Africa, New Zealand, and Bangladesh are still to win an ICC T20 World Cup
  • England won their first T20 World Cup in 2010
  • Sri Land is the only team who was the runner up in two ICC T20 events, first in 2009 against Pakistan and then in 2012 against West Indies. Finally, they earned the opportunity to become the champions in 2014.
  • Mahela Jayawardene from Sri Lanka (1016 runs) is the highest runs scorer overall at T20 Men World Cups.
  • Shakib Al Hasan (41 Wickets) is the highest wicket-taker overall at T20 Men World Cups.
  • Marlon Samuels from west Indies is the two-time man of the match performer in the finals of ICC T20 Cup 2012 and 16
  • Viral Kohli, Shane Watson, Chris Gayle and Mahela Jayawardene share the record of 5 men of the matches in all the T20 World Cup Matches.

Bottom Line

Let’s see who will conquer the grounds of Australia as the defending champions are always unbeatable at their home conditions. Will New Zealand again reach to the finals and end up winning the world cup? Or an Asian team will be able to take the winning trophy home. Who will be victorious between India and Pakistan this time? Will India capitalise and handle the bowling force of Pakistan? Or once again green shirts will do the unexpected? What about underrated teams like South Africa, Sri Land, West Indies and Afghanistan? Will they be able to leave a mark on this international stage? These all questions will be answered after the wait for a few days more. So stay connected and tell us which team you are supporting in the comment section below.
