When you thought of the worst and best armies in the world, you might have thought of your own nation’s Army, but a lot more people are aware that there are actually far more greats than just our national forces. Many countries with strong military forces include some of these top 10 most powerful armies in the world.

1. United States Army

With a population of approximately 330 million and a land area of nearly 2,000 square miles, it is no surprise to find that United States, as one of the greatest armies in the world would have the highest number of troops. However, they wouldn’t be able to boast with their forces if not for their incredible technology and weapons. With the use of drones, this was also able to do everything from sending out missiles to tracking targets with their nuclear-powered bombers. The soldiers also came up with new innovations such as armoured vehicles and helicopters. This force is also known for being an industrial powerhouse and they are constantly developing and improving its capabilities. So far, the US has achieved many victories, especially compared to other nations. They are still at the forefront in making new technologies such as using drones. Their biggest achievement is winning World War II at Okinawa because the Japanese refused to surrender.

2. United Kingdom Army

With an estimated population of about 80 million and a territorial area of around 50 square kilometres, the British Army had the largest territory and would rank among the greatest armies in the world. Unfortunately, their only achievements were during WWII with most of their forces dying, except for two units, whose leaders led from Cornwall. As their forces lead the invading force, they were left isolated from the rest of the world and had to rely on their own resources and weaponry to stay afloat. Their main aim was to attack Germany and Italy with their massive tank force. During WWII, the country lost several thousand lives due to artillery attacks, which were often unsuccessful. One thing they did achieve successfully, though was the victory in Afghanistan after the Soviet invasion. Their troops took control over Kabul in July with minimal resistance, making Afghanistan a liberated country. A little later, another group invaded Egypt. They were soon defeated by the Egyptian forces who soon surrendered after the British Forces captured them and forced them into submission. But even with all this success, they have gained less territory than any country or power in the world.

3. Russian Armed Forces

With approximately a population of 145 million, Russia was ranked among the most advanced Armed Forces in the world. Even though it was almost never in a war, the Russian government had the capacity to attack anyone they wanted and would have been capable to invade anywhere at any time. Their military had also acquired new ideas and weapons such as satellites, radio systems and drones. These were used before WWI and WW2, and even though this was not mentioned in history books, Russia still holds the record of having the most ships in the whole world. They have conquered numerous lands including Georgia, China, South Korea and North Korea. The economy of Russia is very poor, with its GDP standing at $2 trillion. It is currently leading on the economic front in Europe and has a GDP per capita standing at 78.5 USD. According to the website CIA, the total cost to produce a tank alone in 2012 was about $2.5 billion; but for tanks costing $1.8 billion. Since this makes Russia a superpower and one of the countries with the biggest militaries in the world and nuclear warheads, they have become the most influential nation in the region.

4. Chinese Armed Forces

With approximately a population of over 300 million, China boasts the second largest population in the entire globe and possesses a huge territory, covering parts of Africa and Asia. From that, the size is bigger than Greece’s land and has made it an important player in global politics. Despite these advantages, its army remains quite small, with only 12,000 soldiers and even fewer ships and airbuses. Due to this, China’s navy has always been a leader within the seas and even though China isn’t a superpower like Russia or North Korea, it is still considered one of the world’s most superior powers. If it continues to grow and remains one of the strongest navies in the world, it will surely take the world by storm.

5. Pakistan Armed Forces

Even though their country borders Afghanistan and India, they still boast of the first expeditionary and large naval forces. This gives them the ability to carry out their operations anywhere, anytime. There are also a few submarine warfare vessels and a fleet of airborne assets. The Pakistani army is also famous for training close-air support or CAS. Its forces also have impressive drones and fighter jets which were used during Operation Cyclone Yojana, the drone swarm attack that targeted Bamiyan. Even though it wasn’t successful, their drones were used for reconnaissance and intelligence gathering. All in all, it is safe to say that their army is much stronger than other countries around the world and as such, they are definitely not smaller than any other army in the world.

6. Australian Forces

With approximately an estimated population of approximately 39 million, Australia is considered to be one of the strongest and greatest nations and a major military force in Asia. Although their forces are rather small, they are also well equipped with a wide range of weaponry including warships and aircraft. Not only that, but Australia also has a long history of technological advancements since it has many submarines, planes, submarines and warships. That is what makes them so highly effective and why they are able to dominate the oceans, seas and seas of Asia.

7. France

With an estimated population of approximately 100 million, France is the sixth most populated state in the entire world. At the top of its prowess stands the French Armed Forces or as it is commonly called, “the French”, which comprises the army and police forces. 8. United Arab Emirates (UAE) Armed Forces

With an estimated population of 90 million, the UAAF is among the most feared militaries in the world and is the second-largest military force with a considerable territory. Having a vast territory and a strong navy, it is no wonder that they are very successful. Being extremely strong and technologically advanced, their navy is also capable of destroying any nuclear threat, even those launched from a distance. Their defense force can also protect themselves or others from attacks from land, air towers, cruise missiles and drones. Moreover, they have an incredibly lethal missile that could reach both ground and space. The UAE is also proud of its peace effort and having the largest Arab community, they have maintained their peaceful environment all throughout the Middle East. On top of providing security from the outside world, it is the pride of the world and the world’s fourth-largest democracy; hence they are considered among the most influential forces in the world.

9. Japan Defence Force

One of the most powerful militaries in the world, the JDF has also helped gain recognition from various bodies across the globe. Coming from a cold climate, the JDF has taken full advantage of their ability to deal with extreme weather conditions and has become an essential tool for disaster relief and restoration. Aside from that, their naval forces also dominate the shallow waters for sea trade, allowing them to operate internationally and also serve as a base for international military bases. Considering how large the territory is, Japan is also a prime example of their efficient military equipment and advanced technology. For the last 20 years or so, the Japanese military has been involved in many projects and programs that would help improve the condition, health and welfare of humans.

10. Turkey

Turkish Land Forces or Turkish Army are considered to be the most powerful in the eastern Mediterranean. It has more than 5,70,000 men under arms and 429,000 in reserve with a robust airforce. Also, it has the 8th biggest number of active troops in the world. The country also possesses a considerable number of jets and attack helicopters.
