Defining Activities in Project Management

Defining Activities in Project Management ( PMP ) is the process of writing down and identifying the specific tasks that need to be done to finish the job by creating milestone and Activity list and add activity definition . By breaking down work packages into schedule tasks, this process’s main benefit is that it makes it easier to estimate, plan, carry out, monitor, and manage the project work. The project as a whole goes through this process. Figure below shows the process’s inputs, tools and methods, and outputs.

People may break down work packages to the level of depth that is known early on in the strategic planning process, when information is not as clear. It will be easier to break down work packages into activity definition in project management as more information about future events comes in.

Meetings

People can meet in person, online, in a structured setting, or informally. Team members or experts in the field may get together to plan out the tasks that need to be done to finish the job.

The schedule of activities needed for the job is on the activity list project management . The activity list has an activity identifier and a detailed scope of work statement for each activity so that everyone on the project team knows what they need to do.

In the beginning of the project, they have the unique activity number (ID), the WBS ID, and the activity label or name. When finished, they might have lists of activities, activities that came before and after them, logical connections, leads and lags, resource needs, due dates, limits, and assumptions. Activity attributes can show where the work needs to be done, what part of the project plan it belongs to, and what kind of work needs to be done. You can use activity attributes to make a schedule and to pick out, sort, and order actions on a planned schedule in different ways in reports.

Milestone List

A milestone is an important event or point in a project. A milestone list in project management shows all the important steps in a project and says whether each one is needed by law or just happens because it’s what happened in the past. Milestones are important events or points in time, so they don’t have a length.

Change Requests

If you break down the project into tasks based on deliverables, you may find work that wasn’t in the initial project baselines. This could lead to a desire for change. The Perform Integrated Change Control method takes change requests and reviews and decides what to do with them.

Project Management Plan Updates
