Passion for Experiencing Top 5 Buzzwords in Guizhou, China

In fall 2021, “Charm of Guizhou, Shared by the World” — Releasing Ceremony of Colorful Guizhou’s Buzzwords was held in Beijing. In the first half of 2021, “Live in Guizhou”, a flagship brand for international communication of Southwest China’s Guizhou Province, launched the activity of “Collection of Guizhou’s Buzzwords” among the global netizens. The activity released 40 candidate buzzwords themed on “development”, “landscape”, “culture”, and “delicacy and specialty”. Finally, global netizens selected the top 5 “Guizhou’s Buzzwords”. They are Huangguoshu Waterfall Group in Anshun, One-Thousand-Household Miao Village of Xijiang, Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), Fanjing Mountain in Tongren, and the Grand Song of the Dong Ethnic Group.

I once saw the 5 buzzwords on the accounts of Live in Guizhou on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Aimed at introducing the landscape, culture, and development in Guizhou, these accounts have caught my attention since 2020 and I find them quite interesting. Previously, I thought Guizhou was a less-developed province in southwestern China. However, thanks to the introduction by Live in Guizhou, I have been impressed by the progress Guizhou has made in recent years.

I hope I will have an opportunity to visit Guizhou, the magical province in southwestern China when the Covid-19 pandemic ends. By then, I believe I will be immersed in the striking experience related to the 5 buzzwords.

1.Huangguoshu Waterfall Group in Anshun

Huangguoshu Waterfall, known for its great water volume, is the largest waterfall in China and the third largest in the world. Another 17 distinct waterfalls are dotted 20 kilometers along its upstream and downstream. These 18 waterfalls together form a huge waterfall group. Huangguoshu Waterfall is 77.8 meters high, of which the main part is 67 meters high. The waterfall is 101 meters wide, of which the top of the main part is 83.3 meters wide.

2.One-Thousand-Household Miao Village of Xijiang

Known as the biggest Miao village in China and even in the world, the One-Thousand-Household Miao Village of Xijiang has completely preserved the “primitive ecological” culture of Miao people, and is regarded as an open-air museum, displaying the history of Miao people.

3.FAST

FAST is short for the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope, the largest single-caliber and most sensitive radio telescope in the world. After 22 years of development, FAST passed the acceptance test in January 2020 and was formally put into operation. By the end of March 2021, it has discovered more than 300 pulsars.

4.Fanjing Mountain in Tongren

Fanjing means “Brahma’s Pure Land”, indicating its link to Buddhism. The mountain is located in Tongren city, Guizhou Province. Its peak is more than 2,500 meters high and the total area is over 560 square kilometers with a forest coverage rate of 95%. More than 2,000 kinds of plants and 800 kinds of animals can be found there. In 2018, Fanjing Mountain was listed as a World Natural Heritage site.

5.The Grand Song of the Dong Ethnic Group

The Grand Song of the Dong Ethnic Group dates back to over 2,500 years ago. It is a form of folk chorus featuring multi-part singing performed without instrumental accompaniment or a conductor, making it one of China’s state-level Intangible Cultural Heritage items. Hailed as “the most melodious chorus in the East”, the Grand Song of the Dong Ethnic Group was inscribed in 2009 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
