Joe Biden says G7, NATO must ‘stay together’ against Russia’

Joe Biden has said NATO and the G7 must ‘stay together’ in the face of Russian aggression.

The US Vice President made the comments at a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

He said the two countries had agreed that Russia’s actions in Ukraine ‘constituted a flagrant violation of international law’.

Mr Biden said the G7 would consider further sanctions against Russia at a meeting in Brussels later this week.

Earlier, Mr Biden said G7 leaders would ‘send a clear message to President Putin that we are united in our determination to change his calculus’.

‘It is simply not in the interests of any one nation to continue provoking this kind of response,’ Mr Biden said.

Mr Cameron said the G7 meeting would be an opportunity to ‘send the strongest possible signal to President Putin that he has to change his approach’.

‘I think it is absolutely essential that we continue to work together to put pressure on Russia,’ he said.

‘I hope that President Putin will see sense, but we have to be prepared to increase the pressure, including, possibly, further sanctions.’
