Are You a Business Owner Looking for Content But Are Fearful of AI? Don’t Be

As a seasoned Writer with a vast amount of experience, I know what it takes to create compelling content that works for every client. After all, I have been doing it for over a decade, way before ChatGPT and AI content detectors were a thing. During that time, I have been delivering content without any issues but I (and other writers) are now noticing a shift in attitudes. I believe this is down to AI – read on and all will become clear.

Enter ChatGPT

It was in December of 2022 that I first heard of ChatGPT. I had no idea what it was but a client accused me of using it to create content. This was not true, but he had said that he had run my content through an AI content checker. It was returning a small percentage of AI generated content but ultimately, this client believed the checker and not me. To prove my innocence, I wrote another piece of content, recorded my screen and then sent him the footage. This was proof that I had written the content myself yet their chosen AI content checker still threw up a problem.

Now, I am looking at this situation from both sides. The client has chosen to accept the result of the detector as absolute gospel, while I know that the content was 100% mine, so the detector was incorrect and not giving a true result. The client, understandably, did not want to pay someone to create content using AI, only I wasn’t, but my pleas of innocence simply fell on deaf ears – in my mind, this was the time that everything started to change.

So, it was at this moment that ChatGPT was on my radar yet I still ignored it. Why? Simply because it is not a Tool that is of any use to me as a writer. To this day, I still maintain the same mentality and why shouldn’t I? Over a decade, I have worked on thousands of articles for clients around the world and I was not about to throw all that hard work away for a tool that generates mediocre content at best.

What About AI Content Checkers?

Have a quick search online for AI content checkers or AI content detectors and you will see a few options to choose from. In fact, the number of checkers seems to be growing by the day. They all promise an accuracy of 98% or 99% but they will often churn out different results and this is where any inkling of trust should be quickly eroded away. If you believe a tool that says it is 100% human, then how do you know that it is right? What if another tool says it is 100% AI content, is that tool right or wrong?

In my experience, clients trust those tools that simply condemn the honest work of a writer because people are taking the view that these tools are more trustworthy than the honesty of a writer. That is the sad situation we find ourselves in.

Here is a list of some of the AI content detectors that are out there:

  • ZeroGPT
  • GPTZero
  • Content at Scale
  • Dupli Checker
  • Content Detector
  • Originality.ai (paid)

So, you have a mixture of free tools and paid tools but just because some of these tools cost, it does not mean they are trustworthy. If you want my opinion, none of them are trustworthy. Why do I say that? If you check this article using some of the tools in the list above, you will see some different results and here they are:

  • ZeroGPT says this article contains 86% of human-generated content
  • GPTZero says it has a 97% probability it was generated by a human
  • Content at Scale says it is 100% likely to be written by a human
  • Duplichecker says it is likely to be 100% written by a human
  • Content Detector says it has a 55.36% chance of being written by a human

To flip these results on their head, I asked ChatGPT to create an article, you can find that here. All I asked it to do was write an article that consisted of 500 words about the history of the motor car.

  • ZeroGPT says this article contains 90.19% of AI-generated content (or 9.81% is human-generated)
  • GPTZero says it has an 87% probability it was generated by AI (or a 13% probability of being human-generated)
  • Content at Scale says it is 43% likely to be written by AI (or 57% likely to be human-generated)
  • Duplichecker says it is likely to be 96.6% likely to be written by AI (or 3.4% likely to be human-generated)
  • Content Detector says it has an 85.48% chance of being AI-generated ( or a 14.52% chance of being human-generated)

When we look at these results, we have to question the credibility of the tools. Give the tools human-written content and only two come back as saying it was human-written. Give the same tools content that has been generated by AI content and not a single one of them gives a score of 100%.

Based on the results of the human-written content, you might find yourself being drawn towards Content at Scale and Duplichecker as they were both spot on. However, look at the results for AI-generated content and Content at Scale is way off from being accurate while Dupli Checker came quite close but still not close enough. Delve into the results further, and you might say that you want to use ZeroGPT because it gave a reading of 90% for the AI content, yet it wasn’t capable of giving a 100% score for human-generated content.

What this tells me is that these results really are scatty. Some might be believable for some content yet the results make you doubt their credibility for other content. The waters are very muddy and for that reason, how can anyone trust them?

Where Does This Leave Us?

Ultimately, you should trust your writer. If your writer is established and experienced (like myself), then we are not going to risk our reputation by giving ChatGPT (or other AI content creator tools) the freedom to create our content.

DO NOT TRUST THESE CONTENT CHECKERS!!!

Any business that dismisses a competent and distinguished writer for this reason is going to miss out on high-quality content. What’s more, just because a content detector says that the content is 100% human, it doesn’t mean that it is. Content can be run through these checkers and then manipulated to eventually pass with flying colours.

AI content tools are a nuisance for us writers. They have put some out of business. They have also opened the door for those who have never created an article in their life to offer the same service with the hope of making a quick sale. This leads to low-quality content.

One thing that is driving this uptake of AI content detector tools is the fact that people believe AI content is penalised by Google. This is not the truth. Take a look here and you will see that Google is not penalising any content that has been generated by AI, providing it is valuable, informative and meets their guidelines. Go through the FAQs and you will see this:

Will AI content rank highly on Search?

Using AI doesn’t give content any special gains. It’s just content. If it is useful, helpful, original, and satisfies aspects of E-E-A-T, it might do well in Search. If it doesn’t, it might not.”

What this tells us is that clients have some kind of obsession with Google and AI generated content to the point where they are questioning our integrity. The reality is that they need to trust us, ensure that the content meets their needs, offers value and is informative – this is the way that things have always been done. Nothing has changed just because AI has arrived on a grand scale.

So, put the tools down and revert to believing in our ability to create content once again. Writers are leaving the industry in their droves because of this but the reality is that writers are still needed. However, if clients continue to believe the tools, they are going to begin reducing the pool of high-quality writers, leaving them with those who only know how to create AI-generated content that is of very low quality. It is as simple as that!
