With the overwhelmingly positive new research pertaining to cannabidiol (CBD) and its effect on the endocannabinoid system, researchers have investigated how CBD could potentially help those suffering from depression. In 2016, researchers at the University of Cantabria in Spain conducted a Study on how CBD affected depression in mice. Results were almost immediate, significantly increasing serotonin and glutamate levels. The study states, “Our results demonstrate that CBD exerts fast and maintained antidepressant-like effects as evidenced by the reversal of the OBX-induced hyperactivity and anhedonia.” They concluded that CBD could be new type of fast-acting anti-depressant therapy.
Promising research, such as the aforementioned study, bring hope to those suffering from depression. CBD could offer a healthy alternative to conventional depression treatments, providing fast-acting relief for depression symptoms.
