Is email marketing just “old school”?

Remember when there was no email?  Many of you may not, but I do.  It seems it was easier to get your work completed before Email came along.  So in addition to phone calls, and correspondence, we had to start answering emails.   It also created new avenues for error, since it was in writing.  I was actually removed from an account, when I sent an email about a problem client and hit “reply” instead of “forward”.

But even with all of these pitfalls, it has in the  long run eliminated the need for actual hard copies, and transactions to take place without being present.

So in a nutshell, email has become a part of our lives, both at work and at home.  Whether we like it or not, it is an element now woven into our day to day lives.  In a survey conducted by Channel Preferences: 91% of people access their email at least once a day.   These same people also prefer email for business transactions.

And this percentage is across all ages.  Even teenagers (more than 3 out of 4) view email as a part of everyday life.

In addition to all to this, people in general check their email more than once a day.  Email also has a higher engagement rate than social media.

And all of this for the most part is free!   Actual content creation, and a good tool does create costs, but to advertise using email is free.  Reaching the consumer is the first hurdle to overcome in Marketing.   All that wonderful content you create means nothing if people don’t see it.  Email Marketing is an important part of getting exposure and increasing awareness.  At Focus email marketing has been a part of our own marketing strategy for years. And we have attributed lead conversions to some of our email marketing.

In email marketing you can determine when someone receives an email, and opens it.  It is impossible to know this with social media unless engagement occurs.  Yes, you can see impressions but did they see it?   At least with email you will know it.

See the difference for yourself:

I personally think email can be the most effective for lead generation when combined with other campaigns.   For example choosing to email to the same list you just advertised to on Facebook will only allow for more exposure and reach.   In addition the customer may prefer reaching out to you via email.   Granted, I delete many of my emails, but I have also made purchases off of an email offer, and/or subscribed to offerings or newsletters.

Emailing is easy, and can be automated to make sure you send emails at the best times.  Using email for marketing is a no brainer, and is a cheap and easy way to get exposure for your business.
