Managing Change in Your HOA in a Positive Way

It is tough to adjust to a new home adjustment, new rules or new managements in a HOA, which makes it more difficult for the Board to implement change. Below are some tips on how to ensure changes in the community are accepted without causing panic or resentment, especially towards the board in charge.

Establishing trust among the unit owners, the HOA management, and board of directors simplifies the process of making a change. If there is an election of new board members, there could be lots of new ideas being presented for change, and this can cause panic in the association, but if a board has won the trust of homeowners and the management, it becomes bearable to introduce all these new ideas and to give them a chance to air their views without being in a rush.  It is also important to plan for big changes before introducing them in meetings, so there is a clear budget, timeline, and vision being introduced to the team firsthand. They are more likely to agree with the change if it appears structured and well-thought-out.
Using the right pitch when communicating a certain change to members of an association together with the community management in charge can be a great sale. Helping them understand what the importance of that change is to the community will give them reason to approve, but mentioning it only allows for self-doubt and voting against the change without giving it much reason. The board should keep things easy and understandable when presenting to the team involved, if change is approved well and good, if not then there is no need to keep pushing but to appreciate the outcome all in all.
