Wharton Business School is one of the most revered business schools in the United States.

Application timeline

The Wharton MBA program has three application rounds per year with three key dates for each round: Application Deadline, Interviews, and Decision Dates. The MBA/MA Lauder and the Carey JD/MBA Program have two key dates: Application Deadline and Decision Dates. Read below for information on application requirements and assistance.

Documents

To apply to Wharton you will need the following documents:

  • Official transcripts of Bachelor’s degree
  • Professional experience: 4 most recent employments

  • 2 Essays
  • 2 letters of recommendation from individuals who can comment on your job performance

Resume
• Be sure to include your functional job skills, breadth and depth of experience, demonstrated leadership and management skills, and your potential for growth.

• Wharton focuses on what you have learned in your position than with the length of time you’ve been in the workplace.

Essays

• Essay 1: What do you hope to gain professionally from the Wharton MBA? (500 words)

• Essay 2: : Describe an impactful experience or accomplishment that is not reflected elsewhere in your application. How will you use what you learned through that experience to contribute to the Wharton community? (500 words)

• Additional Question: For reapplicants, or opportunity to state any extenuating circumstances (250 words)

Letters of Recommendation

• Wharton requires two letters of recommendations from individuals who are well acquainted with your performance in a work setting, preferably from a current or former supervisor.

• The title or position of the recommender is not as important as his/her ability to comment knowledgeably and specifically about you.

• Wharton requires all recommendations to be submitted electronically. After you have contacted your recommenders, please complete the form on the Recommendations page.

• This section of the application is broken up into two sections: characteristic list and free-form questions.

• In the first section, recommenders will be asked to choose three characteristics from a list of ten that best describe the candidate they are recommending.

• Two free-form questions: Q1: Please provide example(s) that illustrate why you believe this candidate will find success in the Wharton MBA classroom. (Word count: 300), Q2: Please provide example(s) that illustrate why you believe this candidate will find success throughout their career. (Word count: 300)

Financing

The tuition fees for Wharton Business School for 2019-2020.

– Tuition and Fees (Includes $2,000 Pre-Term Fee) – $81,378

There are additional fellow opportunities that offer a paid stipend to mostly second year students in the MBA Program. Each role has structured timelines and deliverables integral to the success of the Fellow Program. Compensation typically ranges between $1,000 to $5,000, but may vary based on your specific role. There are 300+ paid fellow opportunities for MBA Students.

There are additional work options throughout the Wharton School and the University of Pennsylvania. Both the pay, timing and structure will vary based on the specific role. It is important for each student to evaluate the utility of each role as it relates to both compensation and personal learning objectives.

During the summer following the first Academic Year, most students take on a paid Summer Internship. Wharton MBA Career Management is there to assist in this process. Any savings derived can be leveraged during the second year of study to minimize the overall cost and/or maximize the experience.
