Here’s a radical idea for you: 

What if the funders you seek, fear and/or worship are actually just like you? 

What if the Money they hold (and you likely covet) came to them not because they are smarter, luckier, more worthy, or more privileged than you, but simply because they believe more strongly than you do in abundance?

Last week, while reading Inside Philanthropy’s list of the “Most Powerful Heirs in Philanthropy”, I was struck by how dysfunctional the social change sector’s adoration of those with money is. 

Think about it. 

As a social change leader you are constantly bombarded with stories and lists about who has money and who you should be “going after” to fund your mission. 

And in these adulations of the monied elite is an assumption that they are somehow better – because they “outsmarted the market,” or are “privileged” to inherit, or are “lucky” enough to be in the right place at the right time. 

But that’s all just a B.S. story we’ve all unknowingly been fed. 

There is nothing inherently better, luckier, smarter, or more worthy about those who hold wealth. 

Those with wealth simply believe that money is easy to come by. And so – for them – it is.

I know what I’m saying is heresy. We’ve been told our whole lives that those who have money are somehow different. 

But they are not. They are human beings just like the rest of us, except for one thing: they have an abundance mindset. 

And, by the way, an Abundance Mindset is available to every single one of us. I have seen it time and time again, with my clients and in my own life. 

Someone shifts from believing that money is just too hard to attract, to suddenly expecting that it will come to them effortlessly, and then it does. 

So let’s stop heralding the wealthy elite as somehow superhuman, and instead recognize that what sets them apart is solely their money confidence. 

Which brings us to the fantastic news that you, too, can adopt an abundance mindset and watch the money begin flowing in.
