Do we really need MORE TV??

I was reading the Wall Street Journal the other day and a Google TV Ad caught my eye. An Ad which touted an interactive and integrated TV watching experience, thanks to Google. It got me curious about Google TV. I am a late adopter you see, not a big fan of the latest and greatest gizmos on the block. I always wait to be forced into adopting new technological manna from the Maker(s) ( read, Apple, Microsoft, Intel and yes, even Google). However, I am also an Ad junkie, I cannot resist trying out low involvement products after being wooed by a creative Ad spin. Curiosity piqued, I read up all I could about Google TV, even went on their website and did a few test interactive viewings...

The verdict - "Really Google?...More saturation for our shrinking attention spans?"

Google TV, a platform that combines your current TV programming and the open web into a single, seamless entertainment experience. Google TV, an experience that opens up the living room and enables new innovation from content creators, programmers, developers and advertisers, easy navigation to thousands of websites to watch your favorite web videos, play Flash games, view photos, read movie reviews or chat with friends—all on the big screen...

Apps for Google TV
Read that as more things you can do online or in front of the Television. More things that you can do that will help you rehash and propagate popular canned opinion, half witted humor and experience the pure "emotion" of well, second hand emotion. Thank you Google! For first taking away the laborious and hard earned joy of research by giving us everything with the click of a button, and now for packaging entertainment in such a way that we will never have to get off the couch...

Google TV is being talked about as a killer innovation, a revolutionary experience that will change the already crowded marketplace of mass media entertainment. It's capability to merge Web content into a television has got free and paid online TV/movie content sites like Netflix Instant and Hulu, scrambling to get their acts in order. Google TV is a cool concept, It may even shake things up a bit in the marketplace. It is indeed next generation innovation. However, how much more innovation is palatable to our over-saturated consumer community? Do we really need that integrated experience of web browsing, gaming, TV, news, and whatever else that Google TV and its competitors are offering us? Do we really need another platform of big name brands vying for eyeballs and mind share?

Lets Talk...If anybody is reading these days that is!
