Tips to Build Your E-Commerce Website

Tips to Build Your E-Commerce Website

Nowadays, just about everything we do is online, including shopping. Ecommerce is booming now more than ever before. A well-designed e-commerce site gives you the opportunity to build your brand, connect with more customers, and sell more products. However, 25% of e-commerce startups fail due to poor planning! And one of the major reasons is the wrong budget estimation of costs. In this article, we are going to discuss “What to consider while building your e-commerce website?”

There are a number of factors that determine the cost of a custom eCommerce website, including the size of your business, the functionality of your e-store, design complexity, and vendor type. For a number of variables, such as the eCommerce platform you choose, where you source developers, and the scope of the project, the cost of an eCommerce website for a small to medium-sized business will be lower than that of an enterprise.

The following are the major costs to be considered while planning your website budget:

  • Platform Licensing fees
  • Hosting provider fees
  • UI/ UX designing or Paid themes
  • Web developer or agency fees
  • Maintenance fees

How to decide the Budget for Website Development?

To decide the budget, you must work in reverse: What sales are you expecting to achieve? What is your vision for the next three years of business? If you wish to start small and first test the waters, then you can go with a SAAS platform. In the case of the SaaS platform, the Platform licensing fees include the following costs:

  • Security (you don’t have to invest in your own firewall and other security tools to protect from hackers)
  • Minimal Customization and design cost (you can choose from ready themes or templates available. Few might be free but some might be paid, but still cost is much low than designing from scratch)
  • Low Development Cost (You can hire the platform certified development partner to develop your website. Cost is much lower than to develop your custom website from scratch)
  • Maintenance & Support (renting a SaaS platform puts all the maintenance responsibilities on the service provider, including any software upgrades and updates).
  • Apps or extensions (You will likely use other software and apps to get the full functionality and features you need)
  • API Integration into other systems (make sure systems like your OMS or ERP can share data with your e-commerce platform)

But, If you want to start big and make a mark, & you are damn confident in your business idea, and budgets are not a constraint, then go with Open SAAS or Open Source Platform.
