Life at UpKeep – Chelsea Cho, Project Coordinator

Life at UpKeep!

We are starting a new employee spotlight blog series called, “Life at UpKeep”, to showcase the amazing people and teams in our company doing amazing work together!

Through the eyes of our very own UpKeepers, you’ll get a glimpse into our company culture, our team’s big and small wins, how members of our team came to join and love UpKeep, and so much more!

Meet Our Teammate!

We are excited to kick the series off with Chelsea Cho, one of our awesome Project Coordinators in the Operations Department! Chelsea is our Social Media guru behind all of the spectacular graphics, videos, and posts on all our social media platforms! It’s been incredible what she has done with our social media, while also working with industry experts, setting up our podcasts, and being the voice of the entire company externally. Here is her interview with our CEO, Ryan!

Ryan: Hey Chelsea! Super stoked to be chatting with you and spotlighting the awesome work you are doing at UpKeep! Could you start us off by sharing when you joined UpKeep, what your role at UpKeep is, and some of your responsibilities?

Chelsea: Of course! So, I’ve been at UpKeep for about seven months now, since December of 2019! And, I joined the Operations Department as a Project Coordinator. Some of my main responsibilities as a Project Coordinator include, one, managing our social media calendar and generating content from graphics to videos to posts for all of our social media platforms. Two, writing weekly pieces for our company blog to spotlight our amazing company culture, our social impact initiatives, educational resources centered around maintenance and reliability, as well as spotlighting those in the maintenance and reliability industry for the incredible work that they do every single day. Three, producing our company podcast, Masterminds in Maintenance, and talking with industry experts to build a dynamic and fresh maintenance and reliability community! And, these are just a few of the main responsibilities I have here at UpKeep, but everyday definitely looks different, and the projects that I get assigned and own can vary a lot. But personally, I love that aspect of my job because I can get bored of doing the same thing all the time. So, being a Project Coordinator is super exciting and something I really enjoy!

Ryan: How did you find out about UpKeep? And, what made you want to join the team?

Chelsea: Yeah, that’s a great question. When I graduated from college last year, I was really confused on what I wanted to do. I had a degree in Public Health, and was thinking about pursuing a career in the health field because I thought that was the most financially secure and stable option. But, I soon realized that I really enjoyed doing things that would get my creative juices flowing in the artistic sense of creating digital content and design, as well as in the strategic planning sense of creating ways we can constantly uplevel the systems and processes that a company might currently have in place. And so, while I was working part-time at a retail store, on the days I had off, I would treat it like a 9-5 job to apply for a ton of full-time positions on LinkedIn, Glassdoor and Indeed. I think I applied to over 100 places, for roles like an Event and Catering Coordinator, Social Media Coordinator, Digital Content Specialist, and even an HR or PR Assistant. And, LinkedIn’s algorithm definitely knew what kind of positions I was looking for because it led me to a job posting from UpKeep looking for a Project Coordinator. I read through the job description, thought it would be a great place to start my career, sent in my application, got a call from Tyler our Senior Recruiter a few days later, and the rest is history!

Chelsea: After meeting with everyone on the team and hearing more about our company’s mission and values, I was really drawn in to everyone’s passion and excitement to empower and support the deskless workforce. I also really loved the strong balance of working hard, while also having fun and building meaningful relationships with members of our team. And, lastly, I really wanted to work in a fast-paced environment where I can get my hands dirty and get tons of experience, and I felt like UpKeep would truly provide that environment for me.

Ryan: Currently, what’s a project you’ve been working on that you’re really proud of? Or, maybe a project you’ve already completed that you still think about?

Chelsea: A project that I am currently working on that I am really proud of is actually this blog series, Life at UpKeep! I hope through this series, people can recognize that we aren’t just revolutionizing the maintenance and reliability industry, we’re not just spicing up the tech space. But, we are also building a world-class company culture that really strives to celebrate, support, appreciate, and uplift every member of our growing team. And, I’m super excited to release more pieces in the upcoming weeks and months of the amazing and hardworking people in the UpKeep family. Another project that I love working on is the Masterminds in Maintenance podcast, where Ryan actually talks with industry experts to learn more about the maintenance and reliability field! We have a ton of episodes live, so if anyone wants to learn more about the industry we serve, check out the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Anchor!

Ryan: What’s something you love about UpKeep?

Chelsea: So many things! But, if I can name just one  – I love that UpKeep really believes in the potential of every single person in the company. And, that we foster an environment where we want to see everyone grow both personally and professionally by allowing for our team to take risks and experiment and take ownership of big initiatives. This is so important to me, especially as a recent graduate and feeling under-qualified to even apply for the position that I have now. But, I’m always so thankful for the team at UpKeep who saw my potential above just my academic record, previous work experience, etc. And, I’m grateful to be a part of a team that really cares about my well-being and success, and wants to see me fly.

Ryan: Well, Chelsea, I love having you as a part of the team! Thank you so much for everything you do!

Join us for the Next Life at UpKeep!

Every other week, we will be spotlighting a new member of our team! So, stay tuned and hope to see you in the next one!
