This Should NOT Be Your First Dance Song

Tags: song
First dance as a newly married couple is always special. It's a perfect and the most romantic time for a couple. Most of the couples spend a lot of time searching for their perfect first dance Song. There are dozens of beautiful love songs with positive and meaningful message and lyrics.

But sometimes you may end up selecting the wrong song. Simply because the song sounds romantic and lovey-dovey types doesn't always mean that it is perfect for your first dance.

In this post I'll will be telling you all  which all songs are not proper for your first dance.

Ready? Here we go.....

1.
 I Will Always Love You
- Whitney Houston

This song mostly focuses on the break up of a couple. Even when you check the lyrics you will realize that it is inappropriate for a wedding. It says that two people love each other but they can't stay together so they end their relationship.

"If I should stay, I would only be in your way. So I'll go but I know, I'll think of you every step of the way
Bittersweet memories – That is all I'm taking with me.
So good-bye. Please don't cry: We both know I'm not what you, you need"

This is not something you would like  to dedicate to your loved one on your special day. Yes, it does sound very sentimental and romantic but it should be on your NO-NO Wedding List.

2.
Careless Whisper
- George Michael.

"Now that you've gone
Was what I did so wrong
So wrong that you had to leave me alone"
It is a song of betrayal and repentance.  A "careless whisper" could be gossip, or could be a betrayed confidence, or even a metaphor for a bigger kind of betrayal. Personally I love this song. It is the acceptance of unintentional mistake to a loved one, something that seems unforgivable and the only, and or best thing to do is to let go because they can`t go on anymore as lovers or friends as the wound is deep, the whisper that is carelessly uttered deeply cut them through. Sweetly painful.

3.
You're beautiful
- James Blunt

This is one of those few songs which many people choose for their first dance.
"You're Beautiful" is about a former girlfriend of Blunt's. Blunt sees her on the subway with a new boyfriend, and although he believes that they could be together once again, he realizes that it will not happen as she has moved on and found new love.

It is assumed that the music video for "You're Beautiful" alludes to suicide. Blunt removes the upper portion of his clothing and places all of his personal belongings on the ground. At the end of the video, he jumps off a cliff and lands in the water while he sings the lyrics:

"But it's time to face the truth, I will never be with you".

However, it was never confirmed whether the media speculation was accurate or not. Yet something inappropriate for a wedding, isn't it?

4.
Kiss From A Rose
- Seal

Although I'm not sure what the real meaning of the song is but this is what I found online. The term "Kiss from a rose" is a reference to the high you get from heroin. Hence "drug that's the high and not the pill". Also, it could be about smoking marijuana. "Drug that's the high and not the pill" is a little too direct a reference. "The more I get of you stranger it feels", the more you smoke the more stoned you get. Grey describes the gloom of his daily routine and smoking some pot relieves some of that. "My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen" = dilated pupils and moments of intoxicated insights.
I'm not sure if its right or wrong but either it is risky to select this for your first dance.

5.
My Heart Will Go On
-Celine Dion

The meaning of the song is that no matter what happens between two people who love each other, for instance separation (long distance relationships), their heart will still have love for you no matter what. I also think that if things don't work out, you will always love that person because each of you will always belong to each other. It is a positive song but it somewhere talks about moving on after a separation. The basic theme of the song is that what ever happens, whether there is long distances, death comes between the us, etc, you will always be in my heart and my heart will be happy with your feeling. Somewhere it is sightly related to separation plus whenever you hear this song the first picture in your mind is about Titanic and how Jack died and the whole sad things that happened. Hence not preferred for your first dance.

6.
Sometimes When We Touch
-Dan Hill
This is a very inappropriate song for a first dance. Check the lyrics. It  covers rejection, abuse and incestuous relationship clearly something you don't want in a wedding or your lifetime.

"You ask me if I love you
And I choke on my reply
I'd rather hurt you honestly
Than mislead you with a lie
For who am I to judge you
In what you say or do
I'm only just beginning
To see the real you"

7.
Without You
- Mariah Carey

The song is about a man who just got out of a relationship with a woman he loved very much and the song is about how he can't live without her because she was so much a part of his life. It's a simple love story of the heartbreak of a breakup and how you feel that you cannot live without the other person. It was originally written from a males point of view but I have seen females sing this song like Mariah Carey and Leona Lewis. In a way this song reminded me of another of Mariah's songs "We Belong Together". If you have heard of the song (and I'm sure EVERYONE has) "No Air" by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. "No Air" follows the exact same meaning as "Without You" in that they cannot live without the other person.

The original version of "Without You" was recorded by a band named "Badfinger" although Mariah Carey's version of the song is excellent! And even 24 years after the songs release Mariah still does a great job with the song. But wedding appropriate? I don't think so.

8.
Because Of You
-Kelly Clarkson

"Because of You" is one of Clarkson's most personal because she originally wrote the lyrics when she was sixteen years old to deal with her emotional pain at the time. Clarkson has stated that although she has grown to overcome her pain through God, she can still relate to the pain of "Because of You.

According to the song, Kelly is giving the message to her mother, her mother was in an abusive relationship with her father, and would never stand up for herself nor for Kelly as a child. So Kelly never learned how to stand up for her self, never had a full heart, she lives in fear of men of herself of everyone around her.

Kelly's mom depended on her for so many things when it was Kelly that needed comforting, she watched her mom cry and just die inside because of the pain she was going through..
And then she tells her dad the message that because of him, she can not trust, she is afraid and she can not even cry about her losses because he will only see this as a weakness.

So she is singing this while she is arguing with her husband, and her little girl sees them arguing. she turns to her little girl watching her and it all floods back to her, they are showing her little girl exactly what she had to watch as a child..
Powerful song and video! But not proper for a first dance.

9.
Every Breath You Take
- The Police

I used to think this was a wonderful love song but recently when I found out the true meaning of this song I was shocked.  Apparently it's sung from the viewpoint of a stalker man to the woman he is stalking. When the story behind the lyrics of a song represent a negative or destructive idea, like rape, murder, suicide or stalking, the song is definitely not appropriate for your wedding. Sting gets the heebie-jeebies whenever people tell him they used it as their wedding song.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10.
Sacrifice
- Elton John

I feel this song is about a "sacrifice" that a married couple "think" they are making, by separating/divorcing, - perhaps because of infidelity, or they don't agree anymore, or things are not the same anymore between them. By being away from each other, there would be no more fights or arguments, but actually the deep rooted feeling inside the two of them, is LONELINESS.

"And it's no sacrifice
Just a simple word
It's two hearts living
In two separate worlds"
