Alternative, Unusual & Unique Wedding Cake Ideas

A decade ago, if we had suggested to one of our brides that she consider having a Krispy Kreme donut Wedding Cake, she would have laughed in our faces or thought we were mad. How times have changed!

The recent alternative wedding cake trend started with cup cake towers and individual wedding cakes, then along came cake pops… And who would have thought that cake on a stick could work so well as a concept, or taste so good?

Since then cake designers, wedding planners and couples have been “egging” each other on to dream up with ever more unique and alternative wedding cake ideas. And it’s easy to see why. The cake is one of the focal points of a wedding day and an alternative wedding cake is a great way for more laid-back brides and grooms to put their own personal stamp on the day’s proceedings.

The most popular alternative cakes have been Oreo towers, donut towers, naked wedding cakes, real cheese tiered cakes and savoury pork pie cakes. However as you will soon see, there are lots more unique alternative wedding cake ideas worth considering, including cakes made entirely from beer (sort of!), real fruit and even real soap!

Much like the bride’s choice of dress, a carefully considered alternative cake enables them to make quite a bold wedding statement without uttering a word. It adds a definite WOW factor and is sure to be a major talking point for guests on the wedding day and for many years to come.

Savoury Wedding Cakes

Real cheese wedding cakes have been popular for a number of years now. But if cheese is not your thing, or you are looking for an alternative savoury wedding cake there are a few options worth considering. For instance, how about a pork pie wedding cake (even good old Marks & Spencers want a slice of this pie!).

Or a chicken, venison or game pie wedding cake? Obviously the pie can be filled with any filling of your choosing.
