Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty: Everything You Need to Know

A nose job without a knife

In the never-ending sea of event preparation, questions about finding the best dress, the perfect big bouquet, and when to get Botox will obviously creep up — but you may be surprised to know that brides are increasingly concerned with the pursuit of photo-ready perfection. Call it the Instagram effect if you want, but the demand for non-surgical rhinoplasty procedures is way up.

What is non-surgical rhinoplasty, anyway?

“Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also called liquid rhinoplasty, is a correction of the nose’s shape using liquid fillers,” explains John Paul Tutela, MD, a New Jersey and New York-based plastic surgeon. Essentially, the same fillers plastic surgeons use to correct deep lines and wrinkles are injected into various areas of the nose to give it a smoother, more symmetrical appearance.

Who is a good candidate for non-surgical rhinoplasty?

“It’s great for brides, and people who want to try what a real rhinoplasty might be like before making the commitment,” says Tutela. “I recently had a 24 year old patient get this procedure done about a month before her wedding. She’s a young professional that always disliked the way her profile looked in photos, and was interested in getting a quick fix. She didn’t have time for a prolonged recovery, and because the nose typically holds onto swelling for a while, even a few weeks before her wedding wasn’t enough time to recover from traditional rhinoplasty, so we opted for non-surgical rhinoplasty.”

He says the procedure is ideal for patients with a dorsal hump they don’t love.

What types of fillers are used?

“I use Juvederm Ultra XC,” tells Tutela, “but almost any filler can be used. You don’t want want a very soft filler like Restylane or Restylane Silk, though.”

What’s the downtime like from non-surgical rhinoplasty?

“None, really.” Dr. Tutela says there can be 7-14 days of bruising for some patients, so leaving a good week or two before a major event, like a wedding, is a good idea.

Is it expensive?

A typical non-surgical rhinoplasty procedure requires about one syringe, or slightly less, of filler. Dr. Tutela’s office charges $750 per syringe, but costs may vary around the country.

How long does non-surgical rhinoplasty last?

“Patients can expect their results to last about nine months,” says Tutela. That’s just enough time to get through a wedding, a honeymoon (even if it’s delayed), and almost the first exciting year of marriage.
