Meghan Markle Plans To Break Royal Tradition With Her Walk Down The Aisle

While the countdown to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding is officially underway, a close source tells Us Weekly that Markle wants her mother, Doria Ragland, to be the one to walk her down the aisle.

Markle is straying far from tradition by asking her mother to give her away on her wedding day instead of her father, Thomas Markle. “I’ve heard that Meghan wants her mother to walk her down the aisle, which would be a sweet moment,” a source tells Us Weekly. “With the wedding, they both want to do things their way. While they will always be mindful of traditions and the views of their elders, the day is ultimately about them and what they want to do,” the source adds.

Markle and Prince Harry are certainly shaking things up with their upcoming nuptials. “The day of the wedding itself will certainly hold a few unconventional surprises. Don’t expect a royal wedding by numbers. They want to involve their friends and family as much in as much as possible throughout the day,” the insider tells Us Weekly.

Markle and her mother have always held a close relationship, and Ragland was even spotted with Markle during one of the couple’s first major outings at the Invictus Games. Markle was raised by both of her parents in LA, but they divorced when Markle was six. After the divorce, she lived with her mom, who is a yoga instructor and social worker (Elle).

However, there seems to be tension between the Markle family and the royal family. During the holiday, Prince Harry made a comment to BBC Radio 4’s Today program and stated: “I think we’ve got one of the biggest families that I know of and every family is complex as well. She’s done an absolutely amazing job, she’s getting in there and it’s the family that I suppose she never had.” (E! News).

Markle’s half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. didn’t appreciate the comment and told to the Daily Mail: “She’s had a really good family,” he told the publication. “We were as close as we could be, as tight as we could be, that’s what we were. We’d get together on Christmases, on holidays, on birthdays, on Thanksgivings… It was always somewhere, even though we lived in different parts of the city [Los Angeles] – we still all got together. Obviously, she had a family. She was very privileged. She got everything she ever wanted. We did the best that we could in terms of getting together for holidays and whatnot.” (E! News).

While Markle and her father have a reclusive relationship, Markle’s half-sister Samantha Markle told Us in another interview that her father would be honored to walk her down the aisle at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in May 2018. “I’m sure he wants to walk her down the aisle. I know he wants to do it. He’s a shy guy now, he’s a quiet man, but he’ll speak when he feels it’s appropriate. He gave me permission to say how happy he is, but he’ll talk when he’s ready,” she told Us Weekly.

While Markle is breaking many royal family traditions (she’s an American, actress and a divorcee), but it looks like we will just have to wait and see if her mother will walk her down the aisle to meet her Prince on May 18, 2018.
