A Modern Twist on Vintage Décor Was the Theme of This Real Wedding

Jennifer and Zach had a picture-perfect Wedding day. The gorgeous weather for their outdoor ceremony set the tone for an amazing day and the happy couple even wrote their entire wedding ceremony!

The couple met through mutual friends, and after running into each every couple of months, Jen and Zach decided to have their first date n New Year’s Eve. As Jennifer recalls, “the rest was history” and this is an intimate look at their Real Wedding in Houston, Texas!

Proposal

Zach was living in Denver, CO for work and I went up to spend the holidays with him. We had a fun-filled weekend of snow tubing. dancing, fun, and laughter. The morning I was heading back home he popped the question!

GETTING READY

The theme of our wedding was simple with a modern twist on vintage décor. We chose to coordinate neutral colors with pops of burgundy, greenery and gold accents.  We chose to DIY a lot of the wedding décor like the candles, lanterns, luminaries, signage, koozies and many other rustic elements.

FIRST LOOK

CEREMONY

The weather could not have been better! Literally. We got married in October in Houston and every weekend it stormed…hard! Having an outdoor ceremony, panic set in. But, on our wedding weekend, the storms stopped and the temperature cooled down.

We had an outdoor ceremony where we got married in front of a gazebo lined with greenery and roses under twinkling string lights. Having written our ceremony and spent hours editing and rearranging, I loved every word. It really did fit “us.”

There are no words to describe the feeling you get walking down the aisle. I remember my nerves going crazy as you start making the hike, but then you get a sense of calm and blissfulness.

RECEPTION

The word our guests used to describe our wedding day was “epic.” Not sure if I would have used the same, but I’ll take it. We made sure it was simple and fun with good food and great music! From the open bar prior to the ceremony to the cigar station to the hora loca with samba dancers and pedicabs to take our guests to the hotel for the after party, it really was an amazing night. You really just need to be present in the moment and take it all in because time flies.

My husband grew up singing his entire life. He and his friends were in choir in high school and sang acapella.  That night he surprised me by singing our father-daughter dance song! It could not have been a better surprise! I along with everyone else LOVED it!
