BP: What was the inspiration behind your collection?
Xay Vongphachanh: The inspiration behind the collection is based on one my favorite wedding dresses of all time; Grace Kelly’s wedding dress. I was trying to figure out how to design wedding dresses for every type of princess. The rebellious princess, so we have the stuffy dress the dress that looks nude and the classic princesses. The other inspiration was the movie Funny Face. I love the idea of a princess escaping and doing normal people things!
BP: Tell me about some of your favorite bridal trends this season.
Xay Vongphachanh: For me obviously we love sleeves. We love long sleeves! Another is texture and playing with different types of texture pleating and things like that.
BP: What’s your favorite dress in the collection?
Xay Vongphachanh: Kelly! That wasn’t a struggle! Hands down the Kelly dress is my favorite dress.
BP: Can you describe the Kelly dress for us?
Xay Vongphachanh: Well Kelly is sort of inspired by Grace Kelly’s wedding dress. It’s got a high neck, long sleeves, full taffeta skirt. But what we did was we took pieces of the taffeta and made it into embroidery to really sculpt the body.
