Senior Dating Sites: (Dating Over 50 Online)

Dating doesn’t have to get harder as you get older. In fact, if you sign up to the right dating sites, it can actually get easier

Finding love certainly isn’t exclusive to young people, which is why there are plenty of dating sites around that cater to mature singles who are looking for a second chance at romance.

This is really important. Data shows that the older we get, the more likely it is that we’ll end up alone. And as anyone who’s lonely will tell you, feeling isolated can wreak havoc with your mental health, and especially your confidence. As such, there’s no better time to start looking for love again than now.

Of course, if you’re divorced or widowed, taking those first few steps towards finding love again can be really daunting. You could go out and try to meet someone at a bar or a singles night, or maybe a friend of yours could set you up with someone. But all of this takes time and it’s far from a sure thing.

It can be really exhausting. One bad date can make you feel really down and ready to give up.

The good news is that senior dating sites are here to cater to people who are aged over 50, and who are divorced or widowed, or who have not yet been married but are finally looking to meet their One. The best sites are safe, secure and reputable, and some of them have a huge success rate, with the likes of eHarmony claiming to be responsible for 5% of American marriages each year.

There are many good reasons to start using senior dating sites to find your life partner. The best sites are used by millions of people who are all looking for new friends, dates and – if possible – soul mates. This means that you’ve got lots of people to choose from, and it’s only a matter of time before you meet someone who’s right for you. And because the best sites require a fee, you can guarantee that most users are genuine

In this article, I’ve rounded up the best senior dating sites. I’ve taken a close look at each one to see what makes them so effective, and I’ll be helping you decide which one is right for you. These sites are for dating and for friendship, and they can be used by singles over 50.

Let’s make a start.

Best Senior Dating Sites

1. eHarmony

Rating:

5/5 Stars

eHarmony is one of the most popular premium dating sites around. It’s aimed at those who are looking for something long-term, and it claims to have been directly responsible for millions of marriages across America. Indeed, eHarmony says that they have a hand in 5% of U.S. marriages each year.

What It Costs?

  • Free Version – Yes
  • 6 months – $35/month
  • 12 months – $15/month
  • 24 months – $12/month

Why do we like it?

eHarmony is certainly effective. And with 33,000,000 active members at the moment, it’s very popular.

One of the reasons it works so well is down its sophisticated automated matching methods. When you first create an account, you have to complete a rather comprehensive personality test, which can take up to 10 minutes of your time. It is quite time consuming, but the purpose of this test is to help eHarmony pair you up with suitable matches. There are also compatibility quizzes to complete, too.

Once your profile is up and running, eHarmony then takes your information and data, processes it, and uses it to display a series of daily matches that are tailored specifically to you. It’s then up to you to decide whether or not you want to initiate contact with them.

To further enhance your chances of landing suitable matches, it’s recommended that you take the time to fill out the “About Me” section in your profile. This will give your profile visitors a better understanding of who you are, and will help to filter out any potential time-wasters (why spend time getting to know someone you clearly aren’t compatible with?).

In fact, eHarmony comes with a compatibility tab that shows you exactly how you fit with another person in terms of your personality and values. Characteristics include emotional intimacy, physical intimacy, relationship values, social values, religions values, altruism, affection, intellect and more.

And if you’re the type of person who never knows what to say in an opening message, eHarmony has prepared a series of automated questions that you and your match can send back and forth to each other. As the questions go on and it’s clear that you’re interested in the other person, you can then start to chat properly. If, on the other hand, you don’t like their answers, you can simply back out and chat with someone else.

eHarmony is also very trustworthy and free from scams.

2. Match

Rating:

5/5 Stars

Match is a worldwide popular dating site that, though not exclusive to seniors, boasts that a huge percentage of its database includes mature singles who are looking for love. It’s been around for two decades and continues to generate millions of new sign-ups each year.

What It Costs?

  • Free Version – Yes
  • 6 months – $12 per month
  • 3 months – $22 per month
  • 1 month – $32 per month

Why do we like it?

Match was founded way back in 1993, which makes it one of the first-ever online dating sites. Since then, new features have been added and its user interface has been continually updated so that it looks as modern and as clean as ever. Part of its charm is that, if you don’t meet your ideal partner within the first six month, Match will offer you the next six months free.

And like eHarmony, Match claims to be directly responsible for millions of marriages. This makes it ideal if you’re a senior who’s looking for marriage in the long term.

There are currently more than 20,000,000 active members worldwide, and 8,000,000 of these have a premium membership. Not all are seniors but a lot are, and most users are also looking for something serious.

The registration process shouldn’t take longer than a few minutes, and there’s no need to complete any lengthy personality tests. Instead, Match just needs your name, email address, birthday, sexual orientation, gender and country, before you’ll be asked to fill out a few aspects of your profile. It’s up to you how much detail you want to add to your profile, and Match members typically either add just a few lines or a lot of lines. If you want to increase your chances of success, it’s always a good idea to add as much as possible to your profile (without giving too much away!).

What people like about Match is that there’s a search filter that’s really easy to use. Whenever someone is interested in you, you’ll get a notification. You can then choose to visit their profile, and if you like what you see, you can start a conversation. However, you can only send messages once you’ve upgraded your account.

It’s really easy to find someone suitable because Match’s search filters are really extensive. You can search via age, location and interests, and you can also use a feature called “Discover” to find potential matches that Match themselves think will be suitable for you. You can search for users by keyword, too. For example, if one of your interests is traveling, you can search for “traveling.”

Match is also one of the safest dating sites around. If you’re unsure whether or not you want to meet up with someone just yet, you can use the MatchPhone feature to give them a no-pressure phone call instead. This allows you to see what someone looks like before you meet them in person. We think this is a really useful feature.

3. Elite Singles

Rating:

5/5 Stars

Elite Singles is a dating site that’s exactly what it sounds like: a place where “elite” singles can meet like-minded people. In other words, it brings together well-educated, professional and successful singles who want to find love with someone who shares a similar level of intellect.

What It Costs?

  • Free Version – Yes
  • 3 months – $42/month
  • 6 months – $25/month
  • 12 months – $22/month

Why do we like it?

Elite Singles works because, for many, it allows them to initiate contact with people who are on their level, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and intellectually. Most of the members who sign up are aged over 30, with a good number of these aged over 50. Moreover, 82% of all members are university educated.

Each week, an average of 65,000 new members register at Elite Singles, whilst the site claims to be directly responsible for 2,000 new couples getting together each week. If you’re a senior academic who’d love another shot at love with a fellow intellectual, and who wants to meet someone who’s financially stable and has no major worries in life right now except trying to find their life partner, Elite Singles could be the senior dating site that’s right for you.

It doesn’t waste your time, either, and cuts right to the chase. This is a dating site that uses an in-depth personality survey to match singles with other compatible singles. Each user must fill out this personality survey when they first sign-up. And whilst it will take you around twenty minutes to fill out, the fact that it then provides you with suitable matches each day makes it well worth it.

This personality survey was developed by expert psychologists who analyze almost 30 of your personality traits. You’ll be asked questions about things like whether or not you’re an organized person, how adventurous you are, how easily stressed you get, as well as whether you see yourself as a warm person, a cold person, a dominant person, and so on.

Once you’ve finished the survey and wrapped up your profile, Elite Singles takes you to a list of members who match with you based on your answers.

Initiating contact with your matches is low-pressure. You can choose to initiate contact with a question of your own, or you can use Elite Singles’s ‘5 questions.’ These questions have already been prepared for you, and they give you the chance to get to know a little bit about your match before deciding whether or not to take things forward with questions of your own.

Each profile is generally very detailed, too, which further negates any time-wasting. Everyone who signs up to Elite Singles takes the site (and dating) seriously and wants to find love as much as you do. However, when it comes to sending messages of your own, you will need to upgrade your account.

Overall, Elite Singles is a dating site that, while not exclusively aimed at senior singles, provides them with a platform where they can comfortably explore dating again. Many new members who sign up each week are aged over 50 and 60, and the site checks out each profile to make sure they’re genuine. And with a sophisticated matchmaking system, Elite Singles truly is one of the best when it comes to senior dating.

4. Silver Singles

Rating:

4.7/5 Stars

Unlike some of the other dating sites in this guide, Silver Singles is aimed entirely at the over 50’s. One of the most popular senior dating sites, it offers a convenient platform for senior singles who are looking to date and see what happens.

What It Costs?

  • Free Version – Yes
  • 3 months – $28/month
  • 6 months – $18/month
  • 12 months – $17/month

Why do we like it?

Silver Singles is a super popular senior dating site. It currently boasts more than 50,000 sign-ups each week, and claims to be directly responsible for 2,000 new couples each month. That’s quite a record, and there are currently 4,000 daily logins and over 100,000 users. However, not all these are active.

Most of the people who sign up to Silver Singles are highly educated, too, with 80% of all members claiming to have a university degree. It’s also worth mentioning that – as expected – most of the people who sign up to Silver Singles are either divorced or widowed, and are thus looking for another shot at love. And whilst there are some younger members aged between 30 and 40, they generally tend to sign up to this dating site to meet someone older.

What makes Silver Singles so popular among the over 50s?

One of the reasons is their matchmaking algorithm. This highly sophisticated algorithm bases its match suggestions on a personality test that all new members must complete before their profile goes live. It takes your answers, crunches them into data and suggests compatible singles based on your personality.

It works really well and it’s one of the reasons why Silver Singles is able to “create” 2,000 new couples each month. For one thing, it removes the tedious need to keep scrolling and scrolling until you find someone who seems compatible with you. For another thing, it ensures that you’re never stuck for something to say in an opening conversation because the two of you will already have a few things in common.

The sign-up process is happily straightforward, if a little time-consuming. You’ll be asked a few basic questions at first, including your gender and email address, after which you’ll be presented with the aforementioned personality test. This test is rather lengthy and can take up to 30 minutes to complete. That might sound like a long time, but it’s designed to be super in-depth so that it saves you time in the long run by matching you with compatible singles.

The test includes questions about your personality, habits, character, outlook and traits, and each one is multiple choice. Once the test is over, you just need to answer a further 7 questions (not multiple choice) and upload a photo.

When it comes to contacting other users, Silver Singles saves you even more time by curating your search tab for you. Whereas most dating sites all users into search tabs, Silver Singles filters out users who are incompatible with you based on your personality test. Instead, you will only see members who are compatible based on Silver Singles’s compatibility calculations. Again, this helps to save you time and lets you cut to the chase, which is another reason why the site works so well.

However, if you want to send messages to other users, you will need to upgrade your account. As a free user, your account is restricted to sending smiles only. Only premium members can view photos, too.

In terms of the quality of each profile, Silver Singles’s members tend to fill out their profiles so that they’re fairly detailed. As mentioned earlier, the sign-up process includes a further 7 questions that aren’t multiple choice. Your answers to these questions are displayed in your profile, which can help you attract the eye of other members. These questions typically demonstrate what makes you happy, as well as what’s important to you.

There is also a Silver Singles app that you can download for free, and both the app and the desktop version come with the exact same features. The mobile version of the site, however, is more flexible in that you can use it on the move more.

5. Our Time

Rating:

4.5/5 Stars

OurTime is owned by the same company that runs Match. It’s a fairly new dating app that’s aimed especially at senior singles. Indeed, you must be aged over 50 to sign up.

What It Costs?

  • Free Version – Yes
  • 1 month – $45/month
  • 3 months – $30/month
  • 6 months – $25/month

Why do we like it?

As mentioned, OurTime is strictly aimed at senior singles, which means you won’t have to waste time scrolling through much younger profiles. Instead, this is a comfortable dating site that allows you to get straight to the point.

The site boasts millions of members, with 175,000 of them logging in each week. Around 55% of all members are female, while 45% are male. People who sign up to the site are often looking for a life partner, but some use the site to find new friends in their local area. The relaxed, laid-back nature of the site makes it possible to do both.

If you are looking for a second, or even third shot at love, part of what makes OurTime so appealing to new members is that most people who sign up are either divorced or widowed. They’ve experienced love before, but now that they’ve loved and lost, they want to find romance again.

The sign up process is quick and painless, and registering a new account for the first time shouldn’t take you longer than 5 minutes. It’s an interactive process that’s guided by your own personal OurTime Coach who shows you exactly what you need to do. You will need to hand over your gender, location, birthday, name and email address, but while OurTime also asks you questions about your ideal partner, your lifestyle and your appearance, there’s no need to fill out any lengthy questionnaires or personality tests.

Unlike sites like Elite Singles, OurTime doesn’t rely on a sophisticated matchmaking system to display suitable matches. Instead, you can either search for members using the advanced search criteria (this is free for all members), or you can have a go at the Blendr feature, which is a roulette-type matchmaking service that displays summaries of various profiles. It’s then up to you to either hit “yes” or “no” on each profile. If you hit “yes,” the profile in question will be added to your list of Favourites. Meanwhile, the other member will receive a notification letting them know that you favorited them. It’s then up to one of you to then initiate contact.

Whilst many of OurTime’s features are free, though, you must upgrade your account in order to send messages, as well as see your mutual likes.

Another reason OurTime works so well for senior singles is that most profiles are usually very detailed. This is even though it isn’t mandatory to answer questions relating to your personal information. However, it confirms that most people who sign up to OurTime are looking for something serious and genuine, and are therefore prepared to spend time getting their profiles just right.

It’s also worth pointing out that OurTime does a good job of neatly organising each profile. For example, there are different sections in your profile for different information, such as ‘My Passions,’ ‘My Lifestyle,’ and ‘Body Type.’ Under the ‘My Passions,’ section there are further sub-categories where you can expand on things like your favourite films and music. All of these things make it easier for you to find someone with similar interests, and they also mean that you never need to be stuck for something to say in your opening message (you can just expand on something they’ve written in their profile).

And to save you the hassle of combing through every single profile individually, OurTime lets you view a summary of each profile via the Search and Discover tabs. This means you can get a glimpse of what a person is all about before you decide whether or not to click their profile to find out more about them. You can also quickly add people to your list of Favourites, or send them a Wink.

6. Zoosk

Rating:

4.3/5 Stars

Zoosk has been around for a few years, but it’s been given a makeover in recent years so that it’s better and more popular than ever. And while it’s very much a modern dating site, it’s still got lots of appeal for senior singles who are looking to date and see what happens next.

What It Costs?

  • Free Version – Yes
  • 1 month – $35 per month
  • 3 months – $25 per month
  • 6 months – $20 per month

Why do we like it?

Zoosk is one of the world’s most popular dating sites that’s used by over 40,000,000 singles around the globe. It’s been around for almost two decades and continues to attract senior singles who see it as one of the more laidback dating sites that makes it easy for them to connect with other like-minded singles.

One of the major reasons it works so well is its Behavioural Matchmaking technology. This tech is different from any other matchmaking tech used by other dating sites. Instead of asking new members to fill in questionnaires and take personality tests, the technology gets to know you whilst you use the site.

Yep, each time you do something on the site, such as whether you checked someone out but didn’t message them, the technology learns more about you. Over time, it gathers data about you and then presents you with matches it thinks are suitable for you and your interests.

And for the sake of transparency, Zoosk presents all your personal data on the ‘Dating Insights’ page.

Does the matchmaking tech work for senior singles? It absolutely does, and it’s helped by the fact that a good percentage of Zoosk’s 40,000,000 users are aged over 50. As long as you use the site regularly, Zoosk’s unique technology will be able to provide you with better matches so that you’re able to find what you’re looking for much quicker.

Another reason Zoosk works so well, especially with over 50s, is because its sign-up process is so relaxed and hassle-free. Opening an account shouldn’t take any longer than 5 minutes, and you don’t even need to upload a picture just yet. Instead, you just need to provide a few mandatory details, such as your birthday, gender and email address, and you can connect your social media accounts if you wish.

Once your profile is live, you’re allowed to search for other users as a free member but, like most other dating sites, you can’t send a message until you’ve upgraded your account. You can also send digital gifts, which we have found are quite popular among senior singles.

As well as the matchmaking technology that recommends you matches based on your on-site behaviour, Zoosk also lets you search for users using a feature called the Carousel. Here, members in your age-range are displayed to you, and it’s up to you to say whether or not you’re interested, not interested, or may be interested.

I also like the fact that Zoosk’s user interface is slick and professional, and that the site is easy to navigate. Moreover, the quality of the profiles is typically very good. If you want to get an idea of an individual, you can just click on their profile and take a look at their interests. With just a quick glance, you should have a good idea of whether or not this is someone you’d like to chat with.

Also, Zoosk makes sure that each member verifies their profile before signing up, which means it’s very hard to get scammed using this site.

7. Senior Match

Rating:

4/5 Stars

Senior Match is a dating site aimed specifically at singles aged over 50. It’s unique in that it caters to a variety of relationship types, including travel buddies and new friends. However, many people who use it are looking for love.

What It Costs?

  • Free Version – Yes
  • 1 month – $30 per month
  • 3 months – $20 per month
  • 6 months – $16 per month

Why do we like it?

Senior Match is home to a really friendly community of over 50s who are all looking to make genuine connections, whether that be new friends or life partners. It’s an open and welcoming site that wants to make dating easier for those who are looking for another chance.

At the time of writing, it’s home to over 250,000 members from the U.S., 10,000 of whom are active each week. Most of its users are aged over 45, although there are a number of members who are aged between 30 and 40. However, most people who sign up to Senior Match are either divorced or widowed. Because mostly everyone who signs up has serious intentions, it’s really easy to find what you’re looking for.

The sign-up process is quick and painless. There’s no need to fill out any complicated and lengthy personality tests, but you will need to add something to the “about me” section of your profile and create a profile headline. You will also need to upload at least one picture. To make the sign-up process easier, you can register via your Facebook account.

Once your profile is up and running, you’ll find that there are different ways to get in touch with other members. You can send them a wink for free (although it’s strange that winks are only available after you’ve visited at least five profiles), or you can upgrade your account and send them the first message. We like how simple the site is to use, and there’s an advanced search function that makes it super easy to find a suitable match.

And while you need to upgrade your account in order to reach out to someone for the first time, you can reply to their opening messages for free.

All in all, Senior Match provides a safe community for seniors to make genuine new connections.

I hope you enjoyed my guide to the best senior dating sites.

The next step is to pick a site (or two) that really appeals to you, before signing up so that you can take a closer look. If you like what you see, it might be time to start messaging with other people and seeing what happens.

Good luck!
