Love At The Palais Liechtenstein In Vienna

Europe boasts some of the most stunning locations for weddings and the city of Vienna is one of Europe’s best-kept secrets. From beautiful 5 star hotels to amazing gardens, it also has some of the dreamiest palaces in the world.

This inspirational shoot has been dreamily captured by the very talented Jessica Rieke. Planned and designed by the wonderful event planner, Charlotte, from La Fête who shares her inspiration for this shoot, I’m sure you will agree that this editorial showcases the essence of Vienna in all it’s luxurious glory.

We were welcomed to the Palais Hansen Kempinski,  and they certainly made us feel at home during the duration of the shoot.

Built as a hotel for the World Exhibition in Vienna in 1873, the luxurious Palais Hansen Kempinski Vienna can be found right on the famous Ringstraße boulevard in the heart of the city. The suites were incredibly spacious and furnished with every convenience.

THE COLOUR PALETTE

Inspired by the decadence of the Romanov dynasty, the last imperial dynasty to rule Russia in the 19th century, Charlotte wanted to bring their renowned beautiful aesthetic and wealth to create luxurious wedding shoot, as a nod to the past but infused it with enough modernity for a real-life, 21st-century couple.

The colour palette was one of the pastel pinks, creams, greens, peaches and blues, with occasional splashes of deeper colours for contrast. The chosen metallic was gold,  befitting the extraordinary sumptuousness of the Palais Liechtenstein.

THE VENUE

The main venue for the shoot was one of the most ornate high baroque palaces in the world, the Palais Liechtenstein. Over 400 years old, it is located in Vienna’s inner city. Reported to be the first high baroque building in Vienna, the palace was renovated five years ago and has been restored to its full glory.

The magnificent ensemble of Baroque stucco ceilings, opulent neo-Rococo interiors and original furnishings complemented by Michael Thonet’s fine parquet flooring form a harmonious whole. This stunning European wedding venue hosts exclusive events and attracts many celebrities and high profile individuals.

THE BEST LUXURY WEDDING CAKES

The luxury dessert table set up in all its opulence was created by luxury wedding cake designer, Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium. Recognised as one of the best cake designers in the world, the cakes were a perfect match to the gilded glory of the Palais Liechtenstein. Central to the dessert table was a six-tier grand wedding cake with rococo and baroque detailing and pearls topped with a Faberge style egg.

The packed luxury dessert table also featured an exquisite and detailed Faberge egg cake in pastel blue and gold, 2 tiered wedding cakes with sugar flowers, mini cakes, handmade chocolates, jewelled cupcakes, cookies and cake popsicles.

THE WEDDING FASHION

Charlotte opted for two jacket options for the groom’s tuxedo: the first was a traditional Oliver Brown navy blue velvet dinner jacket, for the more formal shots of the day, while the second was a Hussar-style military jacket in a light blue-grey, with gold braiding, from the National Theatre Costume Hire department. This incorporated the essence and aesthetics of 19th century Russia, pairing the Hussar jacket with contemporary trousers and a simple dress shirt.

Brides Do Good supplied three different dresses, the first a Vera Wang blush pink and off white asymmetrical tulle ball gown, with gathered fabric and a sweetheart neckline: a perfectly dramatic gown for sunrise at the Hofburg.

The second dress was a one-shouldered, empire line silk gown, complete with elegant draping and a low back, and the third was a Phillipa Lepley sleeveless full lace ball gown with a dramatic train, perfect for the reception set up at the regal Liechtenstein City Palace.

The Dolce & Gabbana gold sequined sandals completed the looks perfectly.

HAIR AND BEAUTY

The bride’s makeup was kept fresh, dewy and natural: almost ethereal. For the hair, there were two looks: one with loose waves for the floral crown, while the tiara and pearl headpiece worked better with an updo, complete with gentle waves and face-framing tendrils. The overall look was romantic and regal as befitting a Romanov. Alma Milcic, a local Viennese artist brought the vision to life in the most perfect way

THE DINING TABLE

For the dining table, Doll’s Blumen created a beautiful tall floral centrepiece made up of tightly packed pink, peach and white avalanche roses, David Austin roses, lisianthus and pink orchids. There were also groupings of the same flowers in lots of bud vases which ran along the length of the table. The table was covered with a toile de jouy fabric and laid with beautiful crockery, crystal and silverware. Lily Anna provided the beautiful hand made stationery and menus with beautiful calligraphy.

JEWELLERY AND HEADPIECES

The sapphire and diamond engagement rings and wedding bands were from London Victorian Ring Co.  The white, beautifully preserved roses floral crown was by Sophie & Luna. In a nod to Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, a replica of her bridal tiara (the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau from 1932) was also used for this shoot.

The last headpiece was a Jane Taylor London pearl-embellished headpiece. Jewellery was mostly kept to a minimum, with some stunning gemstone earrings from Eva Gems & Jewels fitting the bill perfectly.
