New Telecom Policy To Be Brought in Next Parliament Session

Ministry of communications Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said the new Telecom policy is almost prepared and will be bought in the next session of Parliament after a Cabinet approval.

"The new Telecom Policy is almost prepared, and, this month, we will put it on the Department's website for public comments. We will bring it in the next session of Parliament," said Sinha on the sidelines of 'Deendayal SPARSH Yojana' award ceremony. He said the current Cabinet approval to the telecom relief package—that involves giving more opportunity to organizations to pay for the Spectrum they purchased and also liberalized spectrum caps —will guarantee that the noteworthy accomplishment of the sector proceeds unabated.
"The telecom sector has delighted in an effective history and this will guarantee that the achievement proceeds and that India keeps on getting great network connectivity," the telecom minister said.

Telecom organizations will have an "alternative" to either go for the new installment plan for spectrum or proceed under the existing arrangement, he noted. Recently, the Cabinet allowed telecom companies to pay for spectrum more than 16 years rather than 10 years and allowed them to hold more wireless transmissions, in a bid to provide relief to the financially-stressed sector.

Relaxation on caps on holding spectrum, helping continuous mergers like that amongst Vodafone and Idea Cellular as the consolidated element would have broken as far as possible in specific circles or telecom zones. In accordance with the Cabinet choice, Department of Telecom (DoT) on Monday altered permit standards of specialist co-ops to build number of portions for spectrum installments and radio waves recurrence holding limit.
