Collisions – Virtual Reality Film

I was listening to Triple J on the wireless this morning and heard and this film, Collisions, and it sounds like the most interesting, and sad, event and film.

Here is a quote from the above website that explains the movie better than I could:

Collisions is a Virtual Reality journey to the land of indigenous elder Nyarri Morgan and the Martu tribe in the remote Western Australian Pilbara desert. The Martu lived largely untouched by Western Culture until the 1960’s. Nyarri’s first contact with Western culture came in the 1950’s via a dramatic collision between his traditional world view and the cutting edge of Western science and technology, when he witnessed first hand and with no context, an atomic test.

I can’t imagine what that would be like, no prior contact with Western Culture and then seeing an Atomic test. I haven’t seen the film so don’t know what he thought of it, did he think it was the end of the world somehow, did he think it was a natural event or was he wondering what someone else may have done to cause this to happen… I don’t know.

I’d love to see it, though to be completely honest I can’t watch a movie shot in 3D as it makes me sick and I haven’t tried virtual reality but if it has the same effect I have a feeling I won’t ever get to see it… Nonetheless I would love to hear Nyarri recount the event and his life before and after it.
