These Stores Are Still Open During the COVID-19 Pandemic (Some May Surprise You)

We all know that grocery stores, auto stores, hardware stores and pet stores are still open during the Coronavirus pandemic. But I’ve been getting some questions recently about stores that some don’t consider “essential” and whether they are open or not. So this post is designed to set the record straight so you know where you can shop and where you can’t. I hope it helps.

Academy Sports

While Dick’s Sporting Goods has closed their doors and gone to a “contactless curbside pickup” system, Academy Sports has remained open.

They are limiting the number of people allowed in the store, and posting distance markers in the checkout line as well as for those waiting to get in the store.

Ashley Furniture

Many Ashley Furniture stores are still open for business.

The Ashley homestore in my town is closed on Monday and Tuesday, but open every other day of the week from 10am – 9pm.

Barnes & Noble

Depending on where you live, many Barnes & Noble stores remain open.

If your local store is temporarily closed, there’s a great chance they are offering curbside pickup.

Best Buy

Most Best Buy stores remain open but are limiting access.

This means you can either shop online and choose curbside pickup, or go to the store and wait outside until they let you enter.

They are only letting in a certain number of customers at a time.

Big Lots

All Big Lots are staying open during the pandemic.

They are limiting the sale of paper products, hand sanitizer, water, and cleaning supplies.

Hobby Lobby

Update: Hobby Lobby was staying open for business but as of April 3rd, they decided to close all stores until further notice.

Their website remains open for business.

Joann

Joann Fabrics remains open and is a good spot to buy mask building supplies.

If you don’t want to shop inside, many locations now offer curbside pickup so you don’t have to leave your car.

Michaels

Some Michaels locations are still open and others have gone to a curbside pickup system.

Check with your local store to see what they are doing specifically.

Ask the Reader: What other non-obvious stores did I miss? Let me know in the comments.
