Your Cheat Sheet To Colour Correcting

Everybody pull out your colour wheel. Do you remember learning about complementary colours in elementary school? Well all of that knowledge is about to pay off. Complementary colours are the colours directly opposite each other in the colour spectrum (red and green; blue and orange) and when it comes to makeup, you can use complementary colors to mask dark shadows, veins, breakouts or just about any other skin imperfection.

It can be a little intimidating to apply a bright green around your nose, or an apricot orange around your eyes, but when these bold colours are used properly they can seriously beautify your skin by evening out the tone and brightening up shadows. Like with any new makeup technique, it takes some time to master so practice is key! Make sure to apply foundation over your correction colour, and as always, blend, blend, blend!

Here are your basics on colour correction:

Dior Fix It 2-In-1 Prime & Colour Correct, $45 CAD, Sephora – A little lavender perks skin up by concealing wan, yellow undertones. If you suffer from a dull complexion a purple concealer will leave you glowing!

Benefit Cosmetics Lemon-Aid Color-Correcting Eyelid Primer, $26 CAD, Sephora – Pale yellow perfectly masks redness and general discoloration on your eyelids. This correcting primer does a two-in-one job to leave you looking bright eyed and bushy tailed while also prepping your lids for eyeshadow.

BECCA Backlight Targeted Colour Corrector, $34 CAD, Sephora – A bright red is great for neutralizing deep blues and greens to give you a flawless finish.

Tarte Colored Clay CC Undereye Corrector, $30 CAD, Sephora – Fake a good night’s sleep with this orange/clay toned concealer specially designed to camouflage dark purple shadows and undereye discolorations.

Lancôme Miracle CC Cushion – Color Correcting Primer, $45 CAD, Sephora – This mint green CC cushion provides light, buildable coverage to correct redness in your skin. Applying it liberally on a flushed face or spot correct imperfections like acne. Looking for something that does it all? Mix and match with a color-correcting palette to balance and correct as needed.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea™ Wipeout Color-Correcting Palette, $54 CAD, Sephora
