July 29 is National Lipstick Day: Team Style Spy Shares Their Faves

From best friends to french fries, there seems to be a national day for everything. And today it’s National Lipstick Day. As a fashion and beauty site, we couldn’t simply ignore such an important national day. After all, the perfect shade of lipstick can really awaken your complexion and is one of the best ways to put the finishing touches on your overall makeup look. So in honour of National Lipstick Day, I surveyed the team to see what lipsticks they use to perfect their pout.

Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, $24 CAD, Sephora

Erica… My favourite lipstick at the moment is Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita II. It’s a matte formula that’s highly pigmented, that stays on put. I walked into Sephora thinking of getting Lolita (I heard a lot about this holy grail shade), but found Lolita a little too dark and vampy for me – it’s described as a chestnut rose. Lolita II is a “terracotta nude” – it’s a brighter version of Lolita, with rosy coral undertones. It’s such a pretty shade and is a great everyday colour that would work on many skin tones. Because matte formulas can be more drying, I make sure to add a little extra Vaseline on my lips at night to keep them moisturized.

Tom Ford Lip Colour in Indian Rose, $75 CAD, Nordstrom

Jan… I have a small mouth so I need a punchy shade to prevent myself from looking like that no-mouth emoji. I love Tom Ford’s Lip Colour in Indian Rose. It’s a natural, everyday medium rose tone that pairs in the loveliest of ways with my Urban Decay Naked 2 eyeshadow palette. The creamy formula is pretty moisturizing and long lasting, especially if I line my lips first (I use a Charlotte Tilbury lip pencil in a shade called “Crazy in Love.”). I admit $75 for a lipstick is offensive but the cosmetics fiend in me can’t stop, won’t stop.

Russian Red Lipstick, $21 CAD, MAC Cosmetics

Courtney… When it comes to lips I’m a “go bold or go home” kind girl. My favourite colour is and always will be M·A·C’s Russian Red matte lipstick. It’s the most flattering, bold red, and the matte formula is perfect – it stays put all day without drying out my lips. It looks seriously glamorous on anyone!

Lipglass in Russin Red, $19 CAD, MAC Cosmetics

Caitlin… I have smaller lips so I’m not one to wear lipstick on a regular basis but when I do, I usually opt for a lip gloss over a conventional lipstick. My favourite lip gloss is MAC’s Lipglass. I’ve been a faithful Lipglass user since my early 20s and love the variety of colours it comes in as well as its ability to create both subtle and dramatic looks. I also love its versatility (can be worn on its own or over another lipstick), its lasting glass-like finish, as well as its conditioning effect (made with jojoba oil). My everyday, go-to colour is called C-Thru, which is a peachy beige shade with shimmer. If I want to glam things up, I usually opt for Russian Red—a vivid intense bluish-red colour. Priced at $19 CAD, Lipglass is a bit expensive for a lip gloss; however, a tube usually lasts me several months, which makes the price worth it in my books.

Winnie… Beyond the magical qualities that seem to come with swiping on this lipstick – the instant brightening effects it has on your face, the mood boosting ability, and the way it can magically pull together an outfit, I’ve found that Lady Danger is a universally flattering colour. The bright coral-red compliments various different skin tones, any shade of clothing, and works in and out of the office.
