What I’m Loving Lately – July 2018

The combination of school holidays and beginning to write a new book (excite!) has made me a little disoriented. In fact, I had a jolt of surprise when I took a look at the date – how are we almost halfway through July? How will All The Things get done? So to distract myself from queasiness (because I already know the answer to the question is (as always) hard work) I thought I’d do a mini stocktake of things that have delighted or otherwise amused me lately.

Before I begin, a few events are coming up and I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned them here yet. I’m teaching the course ‘Making Social Media Work‘ for Writers Victoria’s Winter School on the 27th of July, I will be at the Bendigo Writers Festival as part of their Share Fair on August 12th, and will be in Sydney at Writing NSW teaching ‘Making Your Mark Online‘. If you have any questions about these, please let me know.

Oh, also. I’ve been shortlisted in the 2018 Nillumbik Ekphrasis Poetry Award. Yay and good luck to all!

#ThaiCaveRescue is Successful

Like the rest of the world, I watched and hoped. Rejoiced when all the boys and their coach, the rescue divers and medics, finally exited the caves. And mourned for the loss of the Ex-SEAL diver who died as he helped the mission.

Nanette

Watch it. Watch it. Watch it. If you don’t have Netflix, get it just for this – I know people who’ve done that. We went and saw MoMA at NGV yesterday and I stood in front of the Van Gogh and the Picassos and saw them differently than I would’ve before. (You’ll understand the reference if you see it.)

Wellington Paranormal Trailer

If you love movie What We Do In The Shadows as much as I do, you’ll probably have heard about this TV series set to debut soon.

If you haven’t seen Shadows, it’s on Netflix. Or track it down somewhere like a public library, because it’s so clever. I’ve seen it three times and still laugh out loud. Here’s the trailer.

Queer Eye Visits Yass, Australia

This minisode is a good taster for those who haven’t seen the show yet and are curious about its premise or how they tackle their first Australian subject. Adam and I both grew up in the country and I turned to him as I watched the show and said, “We both know about a hundred men like George.”
