What to wear with a long cardigan

I bought this long Cardigan during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and took it to Sweden, thinking I'd need it at night. But since we were in Europe during a heat wave, I didn't get the opportunity to wear it until our very last night. Thankfully, there have been plenty of opportunities to layer it on since we've been back in San Francisco; I pretty much lived in it last weekend in Carmel, but I wanted to show it in a more transitional way too. Thankfully, it goes with nearly everything. Here's how I wore this long cardigan to dinner last Saturday night.

A lot of my new coworkers dress in a more minimal way and, subconsciously, I think it's rubbing off on me a bit. Therefore, I'm embracing the simple things in this look. This cardigan is the "third piece," as we say in retail, that makes the look a total outfit—otherwise I'd just be wearing a plain old T-shirt and jeans. The cardigan itself is a supersoft blend of cashmere and wool, and the weight is not too heavy, not too light—I guess you'd call it "medium," but to me, it's just right. I'm thinking I'll be able to wear it most of the year here, sometimes in place of a jacket, and other times layered under a coat. I did buy mine during the Anniversary Sale last month, but I love it so much, I'd even pay full price for it. It runs true to size—I'm in a small, for reference.

I recently Kondo-ed my closet and realized a lot of my T-shirts are pilling and/or holey, and thus need to be replaced. I'm a big fan of Everlane's tees, so I decided to try this long-sleeved one—I mean, with a name like "the air tee," how could you not? I originally thought the neckline was a little too high and wide, but Sean really liked it, so I decided it's a winner. Also, the fabric is indeed an airy cotton, and I have a feeling it will get even better with age. This tee is also true to size; I'm in a small.

I realized something funny when editing these photos, which is that nearly every time I've worn these jeans on this blog (with a pink blazer and with a statement sweater), we've shot them on the exact same block, right around the corner from my apartment. These jeans are from last year's Nordstrom Anniversary sale, and they're one of my favorite pairs at the moment—they're high-rise and stretchy enough to hold in my recent weight gain (which, no, I still have not lost). It appears that Frame is no longer making this exact style, but the fit is very similar to my other favorite, Le High Straight. But unlike with that fit, I'd suggest sticking with your usual size; I'm in a 28 in these, and I usually go down to a 27 in Le High Straight.

My mom recently commented that I'm wearing a lot of Birkenstocks this summer, to which I say guilty as charged, and also sorry, not sorry. I love that Birkenstocks are having a renaissance at the moment, and they feel more chic than ever before. I love this all-black pair because while they look exactly like the all-black leather Monterey style, they are a mere $40 versus $225. These are PVC, and I hate to say it, but they're even more comfortable than regular Birkenstocks. Plus, you can get them wet and/or dirty, and they wash up so nicely. I plan on wearing these until it's time to switch to my fur-lined Birkenstock clogs, a.k.a. my winter Birkenstocks!

And while I'm not usually one to match my shoes to my bag, I figured it's been awhile since my A.P.C. demi-lune has been out, so here it is. And, yes, I still absolutely love this bag, however it's getting a bit scratched and is probably due for a conditioning treatment. That didn't prevent me from wearing it out to dinner, though!

OUTFIT DETAILS: Halogen sweater | Everlane air tee | Frame Parisian jeans (I also like Le High Straight) | A.P.C. sac demi-lune | Birkenstock sandals | Focalook initial pendant | Miansai bracelet
