This post is now in the guidelines of the FTC It’s something we’re all feeling on occasion, especially when we’ve got children. Driving when there are screaming passengers in the back can prove to be one of the most stressful things. And, unless you drive for a living, you may find that every time you get behind the wheel, especially after a lack of sleep or a particularly tough day it can be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. But what is the answer? Is it about having better sleep, although we know this is impossible? In fact, it’s more about getting that confidence behind the wheel despite the challenges in your way. And with this in mind, when we have numerous obstacles hindering our ability behind the wheel what should we do to overcome them? Understand Your Reaction Times When you don’t sleep as much, your reaction times will be severely impacted. As well as this, you need to think about your own skills behind the wheel. You are not as bad as you think you are, but when you are stressed and you want to get home quicker the temptation could be to get up close to the rear of the car in front. But with the fact that there are 1.7 million rear-end collisions in America every year, making it one of the most common types of car accident, you need to think about your own skills and your reaction times. It’s far better to have a gap between you and the car in front allowing you the luxury to react, especially if there are screaming children in the back taking up all your attention.  Curbing Your Frustration When we get stressed behind the wheel, we end up taking it out on other drivers. They are an easy target. After all, we don’t see these people and we wouldn’t dare do this in real life. So if you find yourself frustrated with other drivers on the road it’s likely that you’ve never taken yourself to task. Curbing your frustration is one thing, but it’s also important to keep your emotions in check. Because when we get stressed we end up lashing out. The solution is to keep yourself calm, not just behind the wheel, but by finding common practices in your everyday life to help. And when you feel that you don’t have much confidence and you get stressed, learning calming techniques while also finding methods to build up your resilience in a slow and controlled way means that you will feel far better behind the wheel. Never Feel Like You Have To RushEverybody feels that if they go faster they will get to their destination quicker. In fact, this is seldom the case when you factor in traffic and traffic lights or the time of day. This means that people get frustrated and this is when we get angry and stressed. When we have children in the backseat shouting at us, this adds more fuel to the fire. Road rage is one of those common things that everybody has to fight and when we have children, we can feel that this gives us an excuse to be angry. It’s far better for everyone to learn a sense of calmness behind the wheel. Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. There are no affiliate links included in this post.
