Goodbye

Why is it so difficult to say goodbye? Is it because we innately sense it is “the end” of something and human beings by nature fear endings?  Logically speaking, everything that has a beginning, has an ending – stories we read, the journeys we take; the relationships we make; the life we live all end at some point , by one means or another.  The only variable is its duration.

Therefore, we should not be saddened by Goodbyes but rather seek to understand that when we say “goodbye” to one thing, we are saying “hello” to another. Sometimes we can even say hello to that which we previously said goodbye to though not recommended unless some maturation has taken place.  We should never fail to forget that the past is the past for a reason – by fault or design.

Charles Shulz’s “Peanuts”

So I say with a certain degree of regret, compassion and trepidation, “goodbye” to the past. In order to mature and evolve, I must be moving on.  I state courageously with understanding, enthusiasm and optimism, “Hello uncertainty, Hello unpredictability, Hello stranger”. Welcome, it’s a pleasure to meet you.
