So when Becky Katz, Director of PR at SoulCycle, shared her amazing Gray Malin-themed engagement story with us, she and her fiancé Jesse became an instant #ZolaCouple! This one is a must read, people!

Becky, tell us about yourself.
I grew up just outside of Boston and love all things related including lobster rolls, Tom Brady, and the accents. I went to college in D.C. and always knew I would end up in NYC so moved right after graduation and I have been working in the PR industry ever since. I am currently the Director of PR at SoulCycle.

How did you and your fiancé meet?
Jesse and I met through one of my best friends from summer camp. She met him at a wedding and instantly thought of me. She is really intuitive!

Tell us how he popped the question!
On a Saturday morning this past June, I woke up early to run a 10K in Central Park with my mom. The plan for the rest of the day was to buy Jesse pants for one of my other best friend’s weddings that we had the next weekend. When I got home from the race, Jesse was rushing me to go shopping (which should have been a red flag because that had never happened before and hasn’t happened since) so I didn’t shower or change. We left our apartment and started walking towards Washington Square Park. As we walked under the arch, Jesse said “I don’t want to go shopping anymore, I want to get engaged,” and as I was processing what he just said, he got down on one knee. I was confused, and then shocked and then SO excited! He had one more surprise, which I didn’t know at the time. He had planned for all of our friends and family to meet at the bar where we had our first date. When I walked in, the first thing I saw was the beautiful Gray Malin photograph of Washington Square Park. But, this one was different. Jesse pointed out that Gray had superimposed him on one knee and me standing in front of him right under the arch where he proposed. It is so special. The photo hangs above our bed.

When is the wedding?
June 17, 2017!

When did your love for Gray Malin art begin?
I fell in love with his work about 5 or 6 years ago when I saw his photo of Prada in Marfa. I had been fascinated with the concept and when I saw his photo, I had to buy it, it was so beautiful. A few years later, we ended up working on some projects together and I just absolutely fell in love with him! He is so creative and brilliant, not to mention the sweetest and kindest man.

What’s your favorite gift from your Zola registry?
I think it’s a tie between the Hill House Home gift card and the wine cellar. Both are very much needed!

Any styling tips for decorating around your focal piece (the GM art)?
Gray’s pieces are so transformative, they completely make a room. His art speaks for itself — with all of the bright colors and beautiful destinations, I like to keep the surrounding areas fairly clean and simple.

What GM piece do you have your eye on next to get with your gift card from Zola?
The Sydney Swimmers Triptych — I’ve had my eye on it for a while now!

Any tips on staying active amongst all of the busy wedding planning?
SoulCycle and lots of it! I try to ride at least 4-5 times a week not only for the workout but also to clear my head.

What are you most looking forward to on the Big Day?
I am most excited to be Jesse’s wife! There are so many details that go into planning the wedding and it is easy to get caught up in all of the logistics, but at the end of the day, I can’t wait for it to just be the two of us.
