#ZolaCouple: Meet Melody & Keith, the Coffee Lovebirds

Meet our latest #ZolaCouple, Melody and Keith. These two lovebirds are the kind of couple you look at and just feel the energy of their love. It is a beautiful thing to witness, and has most certainly inspired us to share! From spending Q.T. in their cozy & chic Kentucky home to supporting each other in all of their dreams and aspirations, we are head over heels for this #ZolaCouple.

How did you meet?
We were actually co-workers! We both worked at a campus ministry located on the University of Kentucky’s campus. We worked two desks apart from each other and honestly never thought twice about the other person. About a year and a half in something changed!

How did he propose?
Long story short – He did it in such a normal way, which I loved! It felt like every other day, and it was a part of something we would actually be doing in a normal part of our lives together. After meeting my parents for dinner in Downtown Lexington, it was pouring down rain, so we decided to walk through some high level pedways to go to a nearby billiard hall. In the second pedway overlooking the rainy city, he got down on one knee with my parents trailing behind. I was so caught off guard, because it was just like any other day! I think that’s what I loved the most about our engagement. It wasn’t flashy, it was just us being us! It was so special having my parents there, and my best friend who is a photographer captured the whole thing. Whenever it’s pouring down rain, we think of the day we got engaged!

What was the first thing you did after you got engaged?
We walked down the street to our friends coffee shop called Daily Offerings and walked into an engagement party! It is one of my favorite memories.

What is your favorite gift from your registry?
We love our Levtex Washed Linen Duvet and Shams! They are so livable and really do get softer the more you wash and sleep in them.

Any tips for balancing wedding planning with your everyday busy life?
Gah! If you have the budget, hire a wedding planner? Haha. If not just try to space out the bulk of the work over the span of your engagement.

Favorite meal to cook for two?
We make homemade pizza a lot. Buffalo chicken or veggie with goat cheese is our favorite!

Go-to dinner on a week night?
Salmon & vegetables or a steak & berry salad.

Favorite Sunday breakfast?
A frittata made from the last of our produce from the week, bacon, and some really good coffee.

Cooking or baking?
Cooking! More room for creativity.

Tips on decorating when you have people over?
I mostly just keep our home as we love to live in it. Which is easy with things that are both utilitarian and pretty like the copper canisters we have in our kitchen from Zola! To me, nothing ruins the joy of hosting more than rushing around worrying that things don’t look just right before people come over. At most, I may just freshen up our vases, I love to make little arrangements from the natural foliage outside of our home!

Favorite winter activity together?
Sitting by the fire! And traveling to Pennsylvania – it is so picturesque there in the winter!

Favorite fall/winter-inspired drink or cocktail?
We LOVE Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Pumpkin Ale from a brewery nearby called Altech.

What is something you and Keith love to do together?
We love to eat anything buffalo, laugh and be like kids together. We enjoy drinking coffee, dreaming up possible business ventures, and taking spontaneous trips! We also love to spend time with our friends, usually at one of our favorite breweries here in Lexington, KY… and in Keith’s perfect world, we’d read together.

What do you love most about being a newlywed?
Waking up & falling asleep together, slow mornings, further discovering each others weirdness, making life-changing decisions together, goofing off, and traveling! Marriage creates this safe place to be vulnerable, scared, silly, grumpy, or dream and plan for our future together. The good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s been a very humbling and lovely process so far.

Did we mention Melody is an incredible calligraphy artist? Check out her work from wedding invitations and signs to calligraphed vows as a special keepsake.
