What does becoming net-zero mean?
We know that as individuals, businesses and nations, we must all help where we can to reduce carbon emissions and tackle climate change.
That’s why Shell’s target is to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050, in step with society. Becoming a net-zero emissions energy business is a huge task. The business plans we have today will not get us there and so, our plans must change over time.
Becoming a net-zero emissions energy business means that we are reducing emissions from our operations, as well as from the fuels and energy products we sell to our customers. It also means capturing and storing any remaining emissions using technology or balancing them with offsets.
What are carbon neutral lubricants?

Shell are proud to be producing and providing carbon neutral lubricants for the UK independent workshop network. Our 0W family of engine oils are now carbon neutral; aimed at providing mechanics and consumers with a more sustainable choice of motor oil without compromising the high performance and engine protection that has made Shell Helix Ultra renowned around the world.
Shell Helix Ultra 0W Carbon Neutral brings all the same benefits as Shell Helix Ultra 0W, with the added benefit of a lower carbon footprint.
You can offer a sustainable motor oil to your customers whilst also having the reassurance that:
- Over 50% of the electricity used in Shell’s blending plants now comes from renewable sources. These plants also rely on energy monitoring systems to improve energy efficiency.
- Shell offsets any remaining CO2 emissions from the creation of our lubricants using carbon credits that are generated from externally verified, high quality, nature-based projects. This means that the carbon neutrality covers the production, distribution and use of the lubricant by the end user.
