Once in a while, you need time to calm your mind and why not go to places with quiet surroundings, away from crowded urban areas. Here is a list of 7 accessible tourist destinations, off the beaten track in Selangor as suggested by Tourism Selangor. Let’s hope we can freely and safely travel again soon!
1. Myrtle Lemon Tea Plantation, Sabak Bernam
Many people don’t know that there is a beautiful Myrtle lemon tea plantation in Sekinchan. Myrtle tea plantations are commonly found in Australia, but are also now seen in Malaysia. If you are planning a visit to this plantation, you can enjoy the view of the greenery farms and paddy fields. In addition, there are a few hammocks provided for visitors to enjoy. You can also buy products at the stall, such as hand soap, body soap, Myrtle tea and fresh lemon tea water. Entrance fee is RM3 for adults and RM1 for kids below 7 years old. The plantation only opens on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 9am to 5pm.

2. Paddy fields, Sekinchan, Sabak Bernam
Sabak Bernam is well-known for its beautiful paddy fields. If you are looking for a serene and refreshing environment, this is the right spot for you to come with your loved ones. You can walk around and take pictures at the paddy fields and stop by the special bakeshop Ah Ma House. They sell traditional Chinese light food such as biscuits, crackers, snacks, and traditional baked goodies such as pineapple tarts, kuih kapit and kuih bangkit (tapioca cookies). You can also visit the Paddy Gallery to learn about seed planting and the process of harvesting rice.

3. The National Botanical Garden, Shah Alam
The National Botanical Garden is an agro tourism park designed for leisure purposes as well as for research. The Garden features a green, serene and refreshing environment. There is a famous four-season house, where you can experience all four types of seasons. The four season house will be open to the public in early 2021. Furthermore, there are also cactus, orchid and spice gardens as well as an animal park, fruit gardens and much more. You pay a small entrance fee. The Garden is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 7.30am to 4.30pm.

4. Selangor River Dam, Hulu Selangor
If you have some free time, please stop by at Sungai Selangor Dam. It is especially interesting for nature lovers and photographers. You can enjoy the natural environment at a lake which is crystal-clear and take pictures of the beautiful scenery of the hills. Not only that, there are also fishing and cycling activities along the way here. If you stop by at night, you can enjoy the night sky, filled with stars.

5. Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands, Kuala Langat
Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands is a perfect place for those who love going to quiet and peaceful places to enjoy the natural environment. The area is filled with trees, large fields and natural plants such as waterlilies. This place has become a habitat for more than 300 species of animals and bird lovers can enjoy bird watching too. You can also enjoy activities such as feeding rhinos, crocodiles and fish as well as go for fishing, cycling, kayaking and jungle trekking. A unique activity is the ‘Safari Insta-Tour’, which is a 45-minute ride on a truck to three scenic locations. Choose from the Bamboo Trail, Lake Sendayan and Rumah Melayu. The rates are RM35 on weekdays, and RM45 on weekends, and MyCard holders get to enjoy a 20% discount. Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands is open daily from 8.30am to 4.30 pm.

6. Selangor Fruit Valley, Kuala Selangor
Selangor Fruit Valley offers many types of local fruit farms which grow rambutan, papaya, starfruit and guava. You can enjoy the fruits for free. You can also visit a mini petting zoo, an agricultural centre, traditional houses, deer and kelulut honey farms and enjoy a kayaking activity. There is also a tram service which you can take around the park while enjoying fresh air. Furthermore, there is a coconut stall where you can take a rest and quench your thirst with fresh coconut water. Selangor Fruit Valley opens every day from 9am to 4pm, except on Friday. Entrance fees are RM15 (adults), RM10 (60 years and above), RM10 (OKU and kids 4-12 years old), and it’s free for kids below 4 years old.

7. Pulau Ketam, Klang
Pulau Ketam is located in Klang and is an interesting destination to visit. To reach Pulau Ketam, you need to take a ferry which costs RM14 (return ticket) per person or a speed boat for RM20 (return) per person. The area is a fishing village, with a large mainly Chinese community. It is also famous for its many seafood restaurants serving delicious menus. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful beach and carry out exciting activities with friends and family. You can also rent a bicycle and stroll around the village, take pictures at mural sites and Chinese temples and enjoy and experience the ambience of a fishing village.
