Day 225: Being a non-vegetarian

I have been brought up as a non-vegetarian since birth. Dad says that I never said 'no' to Food. I would just gulp it down. Food has been a delight to me and it is still. The love affair with food is there to last for now.

Dunno about the future though. I hear friends and colleagues giving up eating meat. Some make it their new year resolutions since it is that time of the year, you know. I try to make sense of all this. I am further puzzled.

Now the reasons for Quitting non-veg for good are many. I understand the ones related to health and reducing body fat. What I have a problem with is attaining inner peace or attaining godliness? If by quitting non-veg one could attain all this, then India would be the first pure vegetarian country in this world.

Our religion and faith is so dear that changing the food habits for the mere sight of god would be the new vogue. However, a lot of lifestyle gurus preach their devotees to give up non-veg in the pursuit of Seeking God

I am Seeking god too. But I am seeking god within myself. The day I find it within, I will see it in others as well. Did god say that you do these 'x' number of things to find me? I ask Dad if he believes there is God. He says yes. I ask what about quitting non-veg. He says no.

You see Dad is very clear about God. I keep getting answers for my curiousness cornering God. The almighty is the creator of all, inclusive of plants and animals. Why turn biased towards plants? We should not be eating anything then. Plants also have life. Killing them should be equivalent to killing animals for food.

Harm is harm. The less and more is only for illusion. So, how about being a non-vegetarian?
