For several days now, the Number of recorded cases for newly infected individuals with COVID19 has steadily risen. Yesterday, the number was 7990 (new cases). This prompted the government to execute quarantine reclassifications, with the hope of deescalating the rate of infection.
More than one year after the first lockdown, the Philippines is still struggling to manage the outbreak of the virus. With citizens suffering from the loss of livelihood and the government no longer being in a position to extend financial aid, the restrictions preventing mobility and the economy in general, had to be reopened. However, the presence of new variants from the UK and South Africa is already present in the National Capital Region (NCR). And with the increased mobility of people going in and out of the metropolis, COVID19 cases went soaring again.
As of this morning, my province Bulacan and other areas surrounding the NCR, have been reclassified from having a Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) classification to General Community Quarantine (GCA)classification. Curfews and liquor bans have also been enforced along with the encouragement for people to stay home.
GCQ will be observed for two weeks beginning today 22nd March till perhaps the 4th of April.
