The Golden Girls

Even before the chaos brought by the pandemic, I was seriously trying to cope with the pain of a broken heart. It was not easy and it was not something I could talk about to any of my friends or my family. From wandering aimlessly on the internet, I stumbled on a video of the show, The Golden Girls on Youtube and that started my new love for a television show.

The Golden Girls is about the story of four elderly women living together. Sophia Petrillo, played by Estelle Getty was Dorothy Zbornak's mother, played by Bea Arthur, their landlady Blanche Deveaureux, played by Rue Mc Clanahan, and finally Rose Nylund from Saint Olaf, Minnesota, played by Betty White.

The show is funny and entertaining but each episode tackles a very serious social issue, such as ageism, discrimination, family relationship just to name a few. It is refreshing to watch and probably unique because it centers on the lives of elderly people. It gives the world a chance to have a different perspective on what life is when one has reached the senior year. It has won many awards and until today despite the show being shot in the 1990s it remains hilarious and relatable.

Of the four actresses all have sadly passed away, except for Betty White, who celebrated her 99th birthday this month. If you are looking for something funny but not into the common sitcoms that we have today, check Youtube for clips of The Golden Girls or on other websites that the features movies and television shows. I promise this one will win your heart. Check out the clip below, and see if it does not tickle your funny bones.
