My Second Home

Yesterday, my family and I arrived at Changgi airport in Singapore. My last visit here was in 2014, four years after that I finally made it back, thanks to my sister's generosity. Now, this trip is even happier because I am with my mum and my younger brothers Angelo and Andrew.

Having worked here in 2008, I have experienced Singapore's culture, food, and people. And I have to say that if I were to have another country to call home other than my own, this would be it. Having been away for several years there have been so many changes - as expected. Procedures in immigration, as well as the airport itself, has had a lot of makeovers. From the luxurious terminal 4 (coinciding with the number of years I was away) to the thumbprint verification, I really felt like a first time international traveler.

People often say comparisons should not be made especially between countries because just like people, they are different from each other. However, I cannot help but do so, because there are things that I believe can be done at home. For instance, we had to queue briefly in order to get a cab from the airport. This incident was immediately perceived by the management of Changgi Airport as an inconvenience, and promptly sent a staff to provide complimentary refreshments! Staffs also apologized for what happened, which I really find refreshing and inspiring. I wish we could do the same thing at airports back home because things like these could really change an establishment from mediocre to world-class.
